"Fired Up"
I haven't checked in for a while but I received an email that John and Charlie at Anthem may be ready to get my car fired up tomorrow for the first time. I am hoping I can get away from work to be there. I have a question to propose to everyone. Down the road we will be adding superchargers to the Roush 511 fuel injected big block (yes I don't that is overkill and yes I know it is probably isane but instead of saying why - say why not?) Anyone with experience with supercharging reccommend a particular brand over another?

Talk to John Panfil. He will know. You will also find out that if the engine wasn't built for a blower you will be restricted on your forced air intake. A "Blower Motor" will have a lower compression to start. All has to do with cylinder pressure.

What type of blower are you thinking of using, a roots type is not a practicle but nothing like a REAL.... lol blower hang out the hood to stir the imagination.
Here is what 45 pounds pressure and a bad noise can lead to on a JP1

Yes it is the first Roush fuel injected 8 stack in the 511 cu inch motor. We will be doing twin superchargers at a low boost 6-8psi). I spoke to John the other day but they have not made the final decision on the brand of superchargers. They are fabricating an intake from the 8 stack to the superchargers. Everything to fit under the stock hood. All I have seen are the paxtons.

No, that is'nt "too much" or "insane". My car is violently powered as it is, @ 2520 lbs full of gas. Yet as long as we're not talkin' standing start I believe it could make use of a lot more power at what I think is the most exciting range of 40 mph to 140 mph punching it from the bottom of third through best of fourth.
Think Arizona horizon. Just this guys opinion.
I think "dynoroom" posted a picture of a bonneville destined Shelby FE motor a couple years ago. It was topped with TWM throats boxed in and pumped by a big Vortec unit. Fit of the compressor would be a different story but boxing the throats to recieve a compressor is definitely there.

We just fired up the engine tonight for the first time. 600 hp was sweet music to my ears. Anthem does great work. John volunteered to come down and meet me at 10:30 tonight at the shop just to make sure it happened tonight since as it turns out today is my birthday! This was the best birthday present any car nut could hope for. It should be ready to drive next week and I will post some pictures soon!

You may want to get all your funeral arrangements made now. Get it all done except for termination date. That can be added pretty easy later.

I may be a bit insane but smart enough to know that even 600 hp could kill me quick if I don't respect it and learn how to handle properly. I realize that is will be a big step up form the 450hp restored 67 mustang I had. This all started 35 years ago at the tender age of 6 (1973)when a neighbor down the street had a 427 cobra he would fire up every Saturday and drive. The first time I heard one I was mesmerized and decided I had to have one someday. I was just going to do a garden variety 427 when John told me Roush was releasing a new 8 stack FI in their 511 ci motor and he had acquired serial number 1 of that engine. The "supersnake" twin supercharger idea came from John and I brainstorming how to make the car different from all the others yet still retain the classic shelby basics.
(That and I had to promise my wife I would have my life insurance paid up) Believe it or not my wife wants to learn how to drive it as well. I couldn't get her to even ride in my mustang but she wants to learn how to drive the shelby.

The build sounds great and I too look forward to hearing her run. I think your wife wanting to be part of the car and drive as well is great. Of course I do not know her or her likes and limits but what a chance to make her part of the car. Would she like to take a drivers course at Bondurant's Bondurant Racing School ? Maybe a great way too spend some time together and let her sneak up on the thrill and power of what this monster will have.
My wife loves the cars and events but will not drive, it's just hard to bench race with a passenger. I think part is not wanting to crash my baby but she also is a bit afraid of the car. Even with my insisting she does not have to drive fast or push the pedal any harder than she is comfortable with but is a happy passenger. I guess I am lucky not to fight over who gets to drive on the other hand.
Keep us posted on how things go and when we will get to see your Toy. |
My toy in getting some TLC @ Levy's. Anyone ever put a Turbo Diesel in one of these...Hum!%/

Nothing wrong just some preventive flu shots. Gordon is redoing pads and a couple of other minor items. I mean this car is running so well for so long I hate to do anything to it. (Engine that is)
If I was doing it all over again I think I would leave the air conditioner out and make room for little blower thing....
Although that air was nice the other day blowing down on the feet and legs felt good. Better then a midget!

The hanger thingy is the "thingy" you hang on your rear view mirror when you show your car at Mammories on Main St. We're doing that next week in Superior for any of the Cobra crew that may be interested. Let me know.
