I think that place sells it by the 5 gal container don't they. I went by not too long ago and I thought they said they don't sell it at the pump but you can buy from them by the 5 gal contain.
I have been told by so many people that it is a waste of time to put higher octane fuel in these cars unless you adjust the timing. You will actually get less mileage? Unless you are going to the track that is....
What is accurate info??
I know who I will ask...

As far as I know they have it via the pump. The last time I bought it was about a year ago with my mustang. (back when super unleaded was "only" $2.50 the racing fuel was $6.99/gal. I am sure it is probably over $10.00/gallon. It provided a bit more power but the biggest thing it did for my high comprssion FE was keep it from pinging under hard acceleration. i found mixing it 50/50 with 93 octane worked well

They no longer sell it at the pump at that Sinclair anymore, it has been converted to diesel. However there is a Valero East on Bell and the 101 that sells 100 Octane from 7.49/ gal at the pump and 114 in the back out of a barrel. I have been told the fuel from the pump is VP fuel. I believe it is Scottsdale Auto Salon.
That is all I have been able to find relatively east from a pump.

You are correct, the higher the octane, the less heat energy (joules/cals) in the fuel. It runs "cooler" so it won't wreck your high compression engine. Any fuel that will allow the engine not to ping is high enough octane and an increase above that number is a waste of money and time. That explanation came from the President of Texaco when he was my sponsor some years ago in endurance racing...... Oh and we used to use 85 octane fuel and boost it with Tolulene and other exciting carcinogens in the endurance cars because we could get an extra lap...

The 110 is the best deal because you can mix it up with cheaper stuff (like 87) to get the desired outcome..

Thanks for the input guys.
I've been using the 100 octane fuel from assorted East valley locations, but recently sold my car to my brother in law which lives in Gilbert. I figured there must be some pump 100 around there. Every engine is different I'm sure, but the range of proper octane for this engine seems to be in the 97 to 100 area. At the time of engine purchase Roush suggested 95 octane minimum. I have found leaded 110 octane in this particular engine produces less power than 100 octane. Newer Roush 427Rs don't seem to be set up quite as hot at this one.
Here's a recap on a few stations around Scottsdale.
Cave Creek and Union Hills Valero, 100 octane unleaded from pump
56th street and Bell 76 station, 100 octane unleaded from pump and higher octane in back
96th Street and Bell Valero Scottsdale Auto Salon, 100 oct. unleaded from pump and higher octane in back
Pavilions at Indian Bend and 101 76 station, 100 unleaded in barrel and 110 leaded in barrel.
Speedway(used car parts) 2300 West Broadway Road, Phoenix, Arizona 85041. They have about everything.
Many ATV shops sell higher octane fuel in 5 gallon jugs too.

What is Octane: The Octane Rating of Petrol
Virtually all petrol stations offer a variety of fuels with different Octane ratings, and the numbers usually range between the high 80s and the mid 90s. This number is the resistance of the fuel to self-igniting. Self ignition of fuel is bad because it may burn before the piston is in the correct position to benefit from the explosion of the fuel, which would reduce the efficiency of the engine. It is this reason - the timing of the ignition of the fuel - that makes higher Octane petrol a better fuel than lower rated petrol. It has nothing to do with the heat energy stored in the fuel, the products of the reaction, or anything else.
This number is based on the behaviour of a mixture of Octane and Heptane which is the other major component of standard fuel. For example, a mixture of 90% Octane and 10% Heptane has a standard resistance to spontaneously bursting into flame. That resistance is given the value "90". If the amount of Octane is increased to 95% and the Heptane reduced to 5%, the resistance of the fuel is rated as "95".
This effectively means that the rating of petrol is a good guide to the percentage of Octane in it. However this is not always the case. Fuels may contain other chemicals but as long as the overall mixture has the same resistance to self igniting as, say, the 90/10 mix of Octane/Heptane, that fuel can be labeled "90" Octane rating.

I called the race fuel place I posted the link for and guess what, 110 Sunoco is $355- or about $6.09 per gallon. He hasn't had a price increase all year....
I can see an election ploy by McCain coming here where they lower the gas price back to $3-..  .. Geez, pretty soon it will be cheaper to run 110...

Just filled up the car two weekends ago when I was at the track. Go to the RV pumps on the right hand side, and bring the bank.....
I mix the 110 50/50 with 91 for what ever that is worth, all I know is that motor sure loves it! Is 39 deg total a lot of timing? I am sure she will take more! hehehe
