Default Update on car repair

Now that 3 months have passed by I was hoping to be able to drive the damn thing but noooooooooooooo. I just dropped off the check from the insurance company to Scotts Coach Works. The car should be started to be disassembled sometime within the next 10 days. They are going to put it on a device to prevent frame shift during the demo time. I have to wait for the lexus that is on it to be finished. The body parts are in from CA. This has been a frustrating experience with a combo of probs and delays. Lots of finger pointing as to why it has taken so long. The bottom line is that Anthem delayed things and had to be bypassed, insurance company took sweet time in deciding what to do, lots of other cars at Scotts waiting to be done.
I don't know when it will be done.

Dave, your repair took so long because they had to get all that brown animal hair out of the glass. Maybe it was a Javelina, their hair is very bristly.

My SPF repair at Scott's took 7 months but I ended up with a better car and a better paint job. I am a happy camper (except for that 7 months).

The car will go on a frame machine. Once clamped in place, the frame will be measured and cross measured and if need be will be realigned to factory specifications. If Scott's is up to date with equipment, they will either have a computer equipped or laser equipped measuring system for their frame rack, if not, then they will have the older style sliding measuring system which also works just fine. Clearly the blame falls on the insurance company and not the body shop because the body shop cannot start work on the car without the insurance companies approval(s). If you were paying it out of pocket, then all they needed was your approval, but from the sound of it, it was a third party insurance carrier that was the hold up.....Just thought I could clarify that for you so you knew where to channel your anger and frustrations...........

Gee Jeff, none of this would have been a problem if you hadn't backed into the other car...

What a pain, they should have bought a new part for you instead of fixing the old one, like a roller part for the engine and trans...

My vette was gone for 10 months waiting for the dash to be refurbed, I feel your pain..

I hope you get the same result that Bob got, his car looks really good...

Look at the bright side, they will fix the chips on the front

My paint job is much better than the original and the original was good. Scott's uses Spies Hecker paint and clear coat, I think the original was PPG. All of my chips disappeared and my new paint takes a hit well so my chips are smaller and fewer when driven the same distance. The blue color is richer and the clear coat covers everything so you cannot feel the stripes. I waxed it about 3 months after getting the car back and have not needed to again for 3 years. Just Meguiars Finishing Touch or Last Touch.

Bob, Mikie's been meaning to talk with you about waxing your car.

Mikie, here's your chance!

Thanks for all the responses. Body shop seems to have done their part to try to get all the necessary parts to to replace the fiberglass but some of the run around was getting approval to get the parts shipped from CA so they could give a better estimate for the finish prep before painting. Insurance company even sent me a letter saying that they like for things to progress faster but the shop was holding up the estimate. Duh, they had to get the body parts first. That was a month delay.Oh well, when its finally done I will get to add new stone chips to the front. I have visited the shop several times and have looked at the quality of paint jobs coming out. Seems to be outstanding work.
