Default Back from the Track

Well guys, it was one heck of a day at Firebird, we took 5 cars, the Cobra, Lister , Corvette, Audi TT, and a 325 I. Blew the clutch out of the 325I and overheated the brakes on the Audi, the Cobra started popping out of 3rd in the hard corners, so I guess it the end of the toploader. The Corvette and Lister performed well. I got the Lister to 165 about 4500 rpm in 5th but ran out of track to go faster(6-speed) corners come to fast at that speed.
There was a white Cobra, stripped down Factory Five #07 with bolt on aerodynamics on the track running time trials. The car was fast but the driver was definately the class of the track and was lapping the rest of the field with regularity. All in all a great day, and everyone had a great time. As they say at the track "drive fast no tickets"

Sounds like a blast. While audi's are nearly bulletproof they obviously aren't quite track proof. I cannot wait to get a driveway back so I can get my cobra out of the garage. I am missing all of the perfect Phoenix driving weather. I would love to know the process for getting on the track. Was it part of a nasa function? My goal is to hopefully be done by the end of january to get out there and have some fun learning how far I can push my car!

Firebird is ASA/Proautosports. Once a month from Sept to May, you can run Fri., Sat., Or Sunday or all three. First time is 190.00 for the class (1-1/2 hours) and 4 twenty minute track sessions. After that 135.00 per day, less if you run more than one. Google Proautosports

Dan,

The car is fine now that the brakes have coolled, but I probably lost about a years worth of tires.
