Superformance Values
Hey Everyone,
Being new to this hobby in the last few month everyone has provided a wealth of information. I am asking for a bit of advice. As some of you know I was able to take posession of a 2005 Black Superformance formerly owned by John Panfil of Anthem Motors. I will be putting it up for sale in a short while after getting back from a shop helping me tame down the monster motor a bit for the street. Given todays economy I am open to advice as to what to list it for. A brief description is as follows: The Superformance Chassis number or SPO is 2165 and it has very low mileage (1300) its like new without a scratch. It has all the performance from a FORD RACING big block engine stroked to 514 CI producing over 650 Horsepower. Also comes with silver ceramic coated headers and side pipes, leather interior, leather upgraded steering wheel Pioneer trunk mounted CD player with remote, amplifier and more. This car has a VERY UNIQUE auto transmission that offers a in dash touch screen LCD for digitally adjustable shift points and firmness and steering wheel mounted PADDLE Shifters like a Ferrari or Lambo. This car can be tamed down and easy to drive for the wife, or with the touch of a screen made into a monster smoking the tires with a downshift at 60 MPH on the freeway. I am an idiot ( I know that does not come as a suprise to the Az group) when it comes to inserting pictures but I have them under my gallery marked terlingua cobra at - http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/s...0&ppuser=31152 Let me know what everyone thinks about a reasonable starting price. John had about $90K into it but right now I am guessing more like $50-60k being the range given todays market/economy??!!? Thanks Ron |
Can't give any solid idea about price, ( would think that $60 to $65 would be more than reasonable) but I can help get the photos over here.

Automatic sale!
I would think you have to find the guy who wants the automatic transmission.
That (IMO) is the big sales feature (or detraction) depending how you look at it. Nice car. Eric |
Thanks Dan. I appreciate it. Anyone's recomendations I would appreciate it. I will be officially putting it up in for sale in the next week or so. I would like to try to get sold in the next month or 2 if possible but won't give it away. It is too nice a car.
Thanks Everyone Ron |
Ron, go to cobracountry.com; http://www.cobracountry.com/home2.html
There are many SPF for sale. You can chart age, power, trans, milage, condition, recent sales, and set your price. With an auto trans you will need a special buyer. Market is a bit soft right now. Good luck. AZ Bob |
Ron, Bob has a good idea about looking at the cars listed for sale. Bear in mind that they are still for sale and that there might be a big difference between an asking price and what a car is actually sold for. Getting the selling prices will be very difficult, I'd think. Sure is a beautiful car you've got there!
|
That's a really nice SPF. I'd start taking it to every car show and get-together possible and hope for an impulse buyer. Don't put a "For Sale" sign on it but hang out with the car and maybe someone will ask if it's for sale. Seems like the guy who gets the most for his car is the guy who isn't looking to sell, but gets a walk-up buyer ready to make a deal...
BTW that's just my observation. I have absolutely no data to back it up... :D Good luck with it. Again, it's a fine example... :) |
Given the current market in the USA I would offer this for sale in Europe. You might be able to get a much higher price for this car "off shore". Not sure what venue to advertise but you might give it some thought.

For some perspective, there is a brand new titanium spf gt40 with a roush 427sr, zf, etc being shopped around at gt40s.com for 75,000.00
Wow! |
Thanks for the info. I was unaware of that site. I think I will probably start at teh $62-63K range and work from there. While I would like to sell it quickly I won't give it away and I might need to keep it a while until things improve. My bottom line number is around $60K to help recoup investment and make a couple of bucks
Thanks Ron |

Well the car now officially up for sale. We will see what interest is generated. This will be my first experience selling a cobra.

There is a really nice Superformance here in Lake Havasu City, AZ, Roush Motor, 5 spd, 1300 miles on it. They were asking $65 for for the last year or so, now asking $49 and still no takers. The Cobra market "sucks" like everything else in the economy, so why not just keep it and have fun.
Bill |
I very well might do that. I am not in a position to HAVE to sell it so I very well might hang on to it a bit. I would like to sell it but won't give it away

The deteriorating us economy coupled with the fact we are getting ready to hit winter, new unemployment for Nov was the highest since 1972 I really do not think you could find a worse time to sell, in all honesty you could not find a worst time to sell anything. I am gd glad I bought my cobra, the opportunity cost of selling the stock to buy the cobra price mine at about 28K right now. I am fairley confident I could sell a spf with roush 427 for 30K thereby making it a better investment, LOL!!!!

I bought my Superformance car in 2002 with 1300 miles, a real 427 FE with Shelby heads and cam for high $40's. I sold the car to Mobilenuke for mid 40's and he hated it so much he wrecked it on the 60.. I made up that last part.
My car cost $105K when it was built and there was a much stronger economy when I bought it, so I paid a lot for it. I would guess that a used SPF would be in the low to mid $30's right now if you could find anyone to buy it at all. I just had a friend offer me a 1999 911 factory Aerocoupe car, black over black with proper 19" wheels and HK springs - a 6 speed car- really super nice car. It is worth somewhere between $13-16K, I can buy a similar car through Penske for under $20K even with their markup. It was $101K before tax... People are not buying new cars at all, drive down FLW and see if anyone is in the car lots. If they are not buying basic transport, they are not buying toys... Sorry, that is the truth. Hold on to the car for 24 months and it will be better. :o |
I understand all of those things. You all are preaching to the choir. I also know there are people that still have disposeable income that are buying things. I completely agree and will not argue about being a bad time to sell but every situation is different. I am thinking about putting it in one of the auctions. Even with prices being down 20% so far with earlier auctions, they still attract the buyers that have more money than brains as well as deep pockets. If I end up keeping it for a couple of years I am okay with that. I just picked it back up from the shop and with the paddle shifters being adjusted right it is a blast to drive.

Until you see a drastic drop in the base price of a new roller (that isn't happening anytime soon), then there will continue to be good, pre-owned bargains to be found in this economy. CSX4910, keep enjoying those drives! :) |
