Default Harrison seat belts

Calling all Harrison owners,

This will be one of those dumb questions BUT I will still ask it.

Did you fit the inertia reel in the spot shown in the attached photo???



Or have I missed something???
It's just that the inertia reel hits the back of the seat and I can't put the seat in the correct position, all the way back. It misses by about an inch and a half.

Yes one of those silly things that does not work right
So you can chop a hole out the piece of steel plate (same size as the inertia reel) which will now allow you to mount it hard on the tab welded on the frame.You will have to cover the hole with a steel box to stop water getting into cabin area.
Or you remount the whole reel in the boot area as some people have done.

I did exactly as Bruce suggested - cut out the 'glass and then mounted the reel in reverse, using the same tab. I then glassed a box around the back of the belt. You will just need to be careful of the handbrake assembly - I ended up having to change some of that as well.

A couple of photos should tell the story.

I had no problems with the seats fouling the reel, Mick but I did have the extended body.

Another of those common cobra problems I suspect. I too lost room to my seats with the reels in the cabin plus the ugly look this arrangement makes.

In the picture attached you can see a T arrangement between the rollbars as the modification to my car. Originally just a solid upright with belt attachment points as standard in the G Force and RMC's.

Now the top horizontal of the T provides an attachement point for the inner roll bar hoops and underneath is the rollover point for the belt as it will come into the cockpit. The vertical plates below the T are where the inertia reels will be attached.



Have you the potential to do a mod like this in the Harrison?

Marty Govitt of Kenmer Engineering thought this very smart piece of work up and I am very pleased as it allows me to run twin hoops and the reels in the boot and frees up cockpit space. The belts appearing out of the rear cabin wall is a much nicer look if you can do it.

found the photo in your gallery. Not sure I could do that in the Harrison but in my pic you see the step away directly below the inner hoop, I did think of mounting it there. Would only have to weld a bracket in the boot to attach it to...
Will let you know what I decide

If you do mount the reels up high, just be aware that you will either need new belt assemblies or you will need to get the ones you have shortened, as the reel won't retract all the necessary belt.

Bruce mentioned the option of mounting the inertia mechanism in the boot on the shelf, that is the way I overcame the problem.

The light is a Hella - Part No 5242. You can get them from Bursons for about $90.

I've the same one Mando and with stripes they tend to blend into the paint sheme a fair bit.

It's one of those safety items I do like, to try and keep the nuff nuffs out of your boot.

Particularly as I don't think the normal brake lights using a Lucas version are either particularly effective nor looked at by following traffic for these cars.

The plennum is the standard 5L top and this is an AU motor but the plennum now looks like this.



And the heads are Edelbrock RPM if I remember rightly. The heads are my first step towards a mild 5L build.

I'm copying a recipe on another car developing about 230rwkw and capable of revving to about 7-8000 rpm I believe, as also built up by Don Stafford.

The planned E303 cam can't be managed by my standard Ford computer and I want to drop on an injected Victor Junior manifold later to achieve the more original look.

As they say these cars remain work in progress and I will enjoy making these changes once I get back on the road.

I like PECALS solution. Nice and neat. I would have done that but ran out of time.
Does the horizontal position have any effect on the inertis part of the reel.
