Commodore steering column

I was out at pick and payless on the weekend and grabbed a steering column out of a 2001 Holden Commodore (i think that is VX). The column looks like it will work without too much trouble. However, it is looking like you cant get wheel boss kits for these cars as they have an air bag as standard.

Does anyone know if it is possible to use an aftermarket wheel on a VX column? Are the splines different to non air bag GM columns? I am planning on going with a billet specialties wheel.

If not, i might have to go back and get something older. I just like the design of the commodore.

Yep all VX and I think VT had air bags, I suspect the previous model VS would be a different colomn as the body shell was all new.

My kit uses the early square shape Barina and Suzuki Swift colomn, it is a very basic collapsable colomn and in the swift there was a tilt version if you need that.

Liam, There's some magazine called 'Hot commodores' or something like that. Have a look at that in the adds in the back. there might be some info there for after market stuff.

I think i am going to order the boss for the wheel i want and work backwards from there. Im not too worried about buying another column. 50 bucks to have the steering wheel i want is money well spent.

I just rushed in a bit with this cause i was at the wreckers getting some old steel wheels so i can move the car to my new house. My rear wheels are stilling being made.

I am not sure what wheel your looking at getting, but I would check what boss's are available first. then work out what colomn will best suit your needs.
Things to look at in colomn are
its length, the indicator switch gear location (how far from end of colomn), and where the ignition key/steeing lock is located.
