Xr 8 donor question

Hi all! Long time lurker first time poster!

I have finally fronted up and bought my cobra body and chassis. The donor xr8 ute is on it's way and was wondering what I should remove intact from the shell to make sure it is in running state into the chassis. I assume it's engine, 6speed auto PCM Bem loom and column. Anything else?

Venom motorsports. All I wanted was the shape and the v8 noise. The build with jag bits makes the engineering easier and the build more straight forward. Also I found his service better than the others I investigated and it was at the right price.

If you are going to use the original ford computer then you might also need the body control module (BCM). If that model has one.

The trick might be to part out all the items definitely not needed and work back from this.

I say this as items such as clips, vapour and possibly fuel lines and a raft of little ancillary bits will be there in the donor that might be able to be used. Can you re-use the fuel tank, possibly the fuel pump in another style tank if not, charcoal cannister, fuel filter just as a guide to where you can locate this and so on.

Obviously suspension, seats, main, lights, panels and so forth can go.

Also depends if you want to somewhat just plug and play with your loom or you want to pair it back to reduce the number of wires. So you need to think what you want in the cobra, dash and gauge style, etc.

If you have the space I'd suggest you don't rush the donor off necessarily.

you dont need the BEM for security.. it can be turned off in the ECU like the GM stuff can be

Maybe your right. Mine is from an AUII 2002, It has smart lock and smart shield and is a bugger. After this model I believe the computers became more programable. At the time, I could not find anybody who could get it to rum without the BCM.

If you use the ECU straight from the car without touching it you you need all the computers(BEM, ABS, air bag, air con etc). The auto ecu is located in the valve body of the gearbox.The car will not start with any of these removed. Talk to BPT Motorsport located in Perth(http://www.norcom.net.au/~bpt/index.htm), they should be able to help you. People in Qld send their ECU's to them to have them customised.
Make sure that you don't lose any oil from the ZF gearbox when you remove it. This oil is very expensive and there is a procedure to check the oil level if topped up which involes the oil at a certain temp. If it does need oil use only the Ford supplied oil or the Motospec equiv, nothing else.
It also would be a good to keep the VIN number of the Falcon. The motor and gearbox ECU's will still be idenified by this number.

the auto tranny doesnt have an ecu inside it
only the holden tip tronic box has the ecu inside it

the ford engine ecu does both engine and the auto
and u dont need the abs or air con or stereo for it to work

we have wired up late model fords with and without security
and all u need is the key and the bem and u can have the factory immobiliser working

anyway who ever u get to tune yr ecu ask them a million questions
make sure they know what is needed when its a conversion as we find most can tune an ecu when in a factory car
but when in a conversion they know how to tune for performance but the fidldy bits in the background alot fo tuners dont think about these

The 4 speed and 5 speed auto computers are part of the engine ECU, but in the 6 speed ZF the ECU is defiantly in the valve body. Electronicaly there is nothing anyone can do to these gear box(even switched on auto sparkys) as ZF are the only people with the correct software to access the auto computer.

Unless the unwanted computers are switched off in the ECU the vehicle won't start without them. When the ignition is switched on the main ecu communicates with all the on board computers for a system check. If any of the on board computers are not on line the car won't start.

getting sick of getting 30 to 40 calls a day asking for help over the phone and with all the other crappy treatment everywhere ive cut down my posting on most forums and stuff
we have been doing more and more show cars and weird and wonderful conversions
so been concentrating on them

From what I've seen here on the forum if Sideshow and Doubledip can't get your electrics singing or at least talking your in strife.

Sideshow can't type for sh1te but I gather he knows his electrics!!

I got my ecu from an AU2 manual sedan and had it modded by one of the Ford drivetrain testing engineers and he turned off the smartlock security, disabled A/C and a few other items I wasn't using. This also meant I didn't need the Body Module but I had to buy an aftermarket immobiliser as I ran Hyundai steering and lock not Ford gear at all.

I too understood the B series to be a bit easier to access the computer and amend but if you aren't electically savvy, then get onto someone that knows their stuff as it is likely to save a lot of grief.

hiya yep it's a zf box. I'll see how it goes when I get it home and try to start it in the car then keep disconnecting stuff.

should be able to just run the ECU and TCM and nothing else.. just have ecu modded by someone who knows
