Wazzas Cobra is getting there slowly...as usual!

Got the car back in my shed again, for a quick assesment of what needs to be done, and when we can hope to finish the car.

It's been with my genius mate..Peter "Chunky" Hancock..for him to wave his magic wand and put all the wiring together.

I think he's done a brilliant job on it, ( Thanks heaps Pete ).....

It's actually starting to look like a Cobra...I'm a happy chappy!

Now we can get a few bits and pieces done and off to the painter....and the trimmer.

Took a few shots here in the shed for those who might be interested.

Cheers,

Warren.

Veeeery nice Warren! Peter's wiring is good too. Neat. I think I recognise those reversing light cutouts. No bonnet scoop?

Merv

Wazza 04-24-2010 01:41 AM

Yeah...Those reverse lights have always appealed to me....Tried a couple of other ideas...Subaru etc... but came back to the "balanced" look.

Bonnet scoop yet to be done........
PLENTY....YET to be done !!

Cheers,
Warren

Warren,

I'm pretty much at the same place. Wiring being done at the moment, 2 weeks away tops for that to be done, then back to Doug's for some small things, then engineering trimming and paint.

Supercharger is all bolted on in place with inlet piping coming up from behind the front x-member. The rear end looks pretty nice in there with the wheels, running some camber I see????. I read that the FF rear end is a bit of a pain (time wise) to adjust, but that will come soon enough.

I'm looking forward to my first drive a lot now and can't wait for it to be fired up and then run over the dynometer for tuning and HP/torque figures.

What tyres did you put on the car?. I'm running Kuhmo KU36 ecsta or something like that i can't remember as it's been a while since I looked at the tyres.

Cheers

Lawrence

Looking great Wazza. I notice you banana benders tend to mount your third brake lights on the boot instead of further forward near the roll bar. Any reason for that?

Rob. Smith 04-24-2010 02:22 AM

Sits nice.

cameron02 04-24-2010 03:23 AM

Nice. Those gauges look great all lit up. Whats the blue circle light thingy?

Don't say it ...I know.
(But I loved it )

Mando 04-24-2010 04:08 AM

Love those wheels Wazza and the wiring looks really good. Top job!

Regards.

Looks great Wazza.

Looking at your speedo position reminded me of a problem I had with the RTA when I sent them photos of mine.

They said the angle between the driver looking forward and the speedo had to be not more than 15 degrees.

I took plan photos with string lines to show it was just 15 degrees but looking at the ADRs I believe it may have been an old rule, the current rule is more vague I think.

Nice wazza.

Hows the new engine in the race car going?

BT SNAKE 04-24-2010 02:54 PM

Wazza,
There is something about this car that says MEAN!
I luv the stance. Very cool. If it were mine I would put these emblems on it.

At the moment I've got ;

Sumitomo HTRZ111 245/45/17 on the front....

and Sumitomo HTRZ 315/35/17 on the rear.

I'M KEEN TO SELL THESE BEFORE I EVEN USE THEM,( They're Brand New )

I'll take $500-00 for the lot.

I'm sure they're good tyres, I got them at the right price ,($600-00 )and they look great, but I'm thinking I should outlay more money and get some higher spec tyres.

This engine, once it's tuned, should be around 550 hp, and over 500 ft/lbs of torque, and I'm starting to have second thoughts...maybe I need to make sure it all stays on the road .

I just thought that's where it went !!!...you've got me thinking now...maybe it might look better on the body.....I think it's just where I've seen it on all the other cars.

Hows the new engine in the race car going?..... SpookyPT

All good Spook....
347 Stroker just got it finished in time for last weekends sprints.

Last weekend was it's first outing for about 10 months.

A series at Morgan Park.....three days...not a bit of trouble.

Pulled like a train...just gotta get me a bit more "Bravety" and the better times should come.

Yeah..me too.
I sorta like the look that the widened front guards give it.
I guess as long as It looks o.k. to me that's all that matters anyway.
Happy so far.

Wazza, what else has to be done to get those (Team 3? Vintage?) wheels under a Harrison? Commodore or Factory Five rear end?

They're Vintage Wheels....
8.5 inch front
10.5 inch rear.

http://www.vintagewheelsus.com/products2.php

The knock off / pin drive wheels needed some room on the front to allow for the pin drive adaptor...so I had bigger front guards created for them..a bit of mucking around with the fibreglasser to get it the way I wanted...but all good now.

The rear width of the Ford Thunderbird I.R.S. is pretty narrow, which allowed a fairly deep dish wheel.

No other changes to the rear bits...other than the diff.
The diff I got didn't have L.S.D. , so I've fitted a "Detroit Truetrac LSD"

http://www.eaton.com/EatonCom/Produc...trac/index.htm

Current rear ratio is 3.27 / 1.....
I'll see how it goes with the 6 speed Tremec , before I consider any change ......not really much point in changing it to ...say..a 3.5 / 1 ?...until I suck it and see .

Cheers
Warren

I have the same setup, the Thunderbird IRS.

I am also using the same rims, Vintage Wheels pin drive knock on's for that original look with a deep dish.

I didn't have the LSD rear to, so I went for the Torsen type instead of the clutch type or detroit style and beefed up axles. It's coming together nicely, and should have the same stance as Warrens one. It does look good, I haven't see the rears on mine as that has been an issue with the incorrect parts being delivered from Vintage Wheels from the get go.

http://www.torsen.com/products/T-2.htm

I am running 3.27 rear end with a 5 speed TKO600, so similar in many ways but slightly different. Should be good to see how they compare in the future.
