The laws are changing, not to meantioned the roumers about what is and isn't legal.
I would talk to your engineer about what they think.
I used Enclemans (along with loads of others) and Bernie was very helpfull.

Just working out the rear end and custom front end at the moment.

Hi Merv and Sharron. Thankyou for your welcome.I am in Bendigo, Central Vic.
The make is Venom sports in vic. its an Arntz/Butler 427 copy
i would like to make it look close if possible so i will be asking about dash layouts in the far future. I have my new shed plans approved by council so that will be priority one at the moment. Nothing like Aussie Mike's shed though.

Hi Stan,

Welcome to the forum.
There's no problem with your Gen 3 engine for registration purposes you just have to pass an IM240 emissions test which is a requirement in Victoria since early April. The Engineer still examines the vehicle and submits the paperwork to Vicroads but he will direct you to VPAC for an emision test and the result (if it passes) will form part of the submission to Vicroads.

Thanks Pecal. so if i run the gen 111 and the right cats and keep it all the same as the commodore then it should pass without any probs then.
Any other things i need to know about before i spend money on a motor and trans? Are side pipes allowed in Vic?

You can never get sidepipes approved, simply because it is illegal to have an exhaust exiting to the side that points to the footpath (the left!) in Victoria. However they have been known to magically sprout after registration.

If you use side pipes you need to consider safety - burns, can you meet noise limits, and more importantly, if you place the Cats in the side pipes will they reach the temp. required to pass the emission test. It's becoming more important now to use high quality Cats and mount them as close as possible to the engine. Meet all these challenges and side pipes are no probs.
