Cool DRB 540 using BMW as a donor

Hello Members,

I am new to the forum, yet have been reading the site for over 2 years. I am very interested in the DRB 540, but as I am in the UK the donor vehicle is almost impossible to obtain.

BMWs are a dime a dozen here and I am thinking of using the 3 series or 5 series BMW as the donor. It means I need to fabricate the chassis of the DRB 540 to accept the BMW parts or have a new space frame made for it. I like to know if anyone can tell me the dimensions of the Ford Falcon XR8 and the V8 dimension as I like to see what will fit a BMW 3 Series with a 4.0L V8 or a BMW 5 Series with a 5.0L V10.

I will also like to use the BMW interior so before I order the DRB 540 can someone tell me the width of the XR8 Dash that fits the DRB 540 so I can see what interior I can use and if I need to change anything.

I have contacted DRB but have yet to receive a reply, are they still selling the DRB 540?

Thank you

Definitely still available ...and I'm sure the guys at DRB will contact you shortly ,they might well be researching the BMW options for you ...Be patient,I am sure a few of the Technical Aussie guys will give you some feedback on compatibility and measurements!!

I would probably jump onto this site, http://www.fordaustraliaforums.com/f...play.php?f=112 and ask if there is a CD or something similar available that provide all measuremenst and specs

Or see if DRB do a roller?

A roller with dash minus engine and box would be the easiest. Plenty of dead Falcons over here maybe they could pack up a donor kit on a couple of pallets too. Then just drop in the BMW drive train, if they can fit a broad shouldered ford V8 in just about anything will fit.

Default BMW engines can be fitted

Pedal boxes might need some trimming but the BM engines can fit.

Please forgive me on that one, it's not an DRB.

It's also a Cobra, not a 540 like TSV's enquiry.

The 540 is a replica of the Cobra Concept roadster. I believe the engine bay is quite generous, as it takes the 5.4 OHC ford engine.
