Concrete Coating
 

There seams to be a few new sheds being completed now and I should have the slab layed in mine in a few days.

I know we have discussed this before but what sort of coatings and processes are out there to seal the concrete.

I had a quote for the pros to come out and epoxy coat:eek:

Any advise would be great.

I am in the same boat, nearly finished painting the inside ( well not me but someone ).

I had a look at Leeroys floor a few weeks ago and it looked fantastic.

I am going to purchase some of the paint today and start masking up.

Leeroy should do an Aussie Mike and give us some pic's and tips on his job.....

I know he used a 2 part apoxy and it cost about $1k in paint to do a LARGE garage ( 7 meters by 12 meters ) i reckon.

That works out at about $12.00 per square meter.

The quote I had was $23.00 per square meter and that included grinding and 2 coats of epoxy. The floor is 280 square meters so every dollar I can save would be great.

Do you need to grind the surface first?

This is a subject I'm very interested in. The slab is down but it didn't turn out as nice as I was expecting. The helicopter float left a lot of swirl marks in the slab and the concreter and I are discussing what can be done about it. There is also a bit of a low in the middle of the slab.

I figure I'm probably going to have to hire a concrete grinder to smooth off the surface and then coat it with something. I've got about 200 square meters to cover so I need something that's good but won't break the bank.

We recently had our floors done at work. I can't remember the name, maybe Rock Hard. However it went down app. 1/4" thick. They say if it gets scratched or scraped it can be buffed out.

Not sure on product names guys, can chase them if you need it, but i wouldn't put anything on without at least giving it a light sand first to get rid of the loose stuff off the top, if you don't it will come away as soon as you start screwing wheels around on it, the other issue to be carefull of is it won't bind well to a polished floor either, so you need a happy medium.

Zedn, have you used that product? If so, did you go for the deluxe kit with the clear coat? Happy with the results?

I purchased the paint today and the guy was really helpfull with the application tips. He said he does it on the side ( applying the paint ) and gave me some great tips.

1. use hydrochloric acid 4 to 1

2. This is to roughen up the surface and allow the paint to penetrate

3. The first coat should have 10-20% thinners so it will soak into the crete

4. The second coat should be done with a smooth brush/roller to get the smooth finish.

5. The paint once mixed has about a 90 minute cure time, so dont do too much at a time.

No, i havnt used it. I was planning to do the floor in the my current place, but moved all my crap in before getting a chance. Plus the drainage is really bad here an my garage floods when it rains:CRY:

If its as good as their other stuff then it should work well.

I used the black and white deck and painted where the cars sit.

I used an off white paving paint that was rolled on. When it marks, I just roll it again.

Rolled it twice in 18 months. Takes about 30 minutes to remove the edge tiles and roll the floor.

It is dry by the time I finish rolling the last bay and I immediately replace the edge tiles.

Cost is $55 per 4 litre tin. Coverage 40 square metres with a roller. Two coats with some left in the tin...:3DSMILE:

That forum is an invaluable resource if you are thinking of doing this yourself. Trust me when I say that prep is 99% of the battle. And the Devoe coatings I used and mention in my thread have stood up unbelievably well during and after my build. I had quotes ranging from $3-5k and I did the whole job for under $1000. I have dropped jackstands, starters, axles etc on my floor and it still looks great two years later.

Sorry for late reply but only saw it today.

Ross was the spot I saw it 1st and his still looks great after years of abuse.

Forgotten product name but Stiffy can help here.

It pretty easy to use but you must be prepared as its messy stuff and you only have limited time depending on ambient temp. I mixed up enough to cutin all edges first with 2 coats. Then this allowed you to do the floor only without worrying about slopping on walls/arc's etc.

Clean floor as per Stiffy and I also chalked all the expansion cuts so no crap is held in cracks etc.

Thin as per Stiffy says as it best to over thin the 1st as it really soaks in and the caot acts as a great key for the 2nd coat. Make sure u get a couple of extra plastic buckets to mix etc. in as you will need to as its easier to mix separate than mixing the tins. Also get a mixing stick to goon the end of a pistol drill to mix the halves as they are very viscous and there is no other way to get it mixed evenly. Use a large plastic tray and a wooly roller for best finish.

Mines down now for 2yrs and its been great and I have not been to careful. Cleans up oil, petrol grease etc. easy with a mop and good floor cleaner. Mines about 8.5m x 12m and it cost around $800-900. and looks like new.

I would not go to light with the color as I did first then had to recoat with darker grey as the 1st showed to much dirt etc you carry in on wheels.
