Motor Upgrade
My motor is in the process of being upgraded (legally). The excellent work of Peter Hancock is involved due to my time constraints lately. Peter is also tidying up my wiring - both simplifying and removing from view many of the cables of the Ford Mustang harness.
The upgrade consists of a long list from Summit including Trickflow heads, cam, roller rockers, 30lb injectors, valve covers, rods and lifters as well as the MassFlow 'conversion kit" (if you already have new coil, distributor and an OK EEC). A few pics show the job in progress. Better quality pics to follow next week when it is done, for those interested.
Should add some grunt and style. Actually looks like a Cobra motor (unlike the first pic with that not so attractive plenum).
Can't wait!

Congratulations Merv. It really looks the part now.
I'm still waiting for the RTA's report. I've given up any hope of getting registered this side of October as I have to go in on 1st July for my first of two knee replacements. I can't drive for 6 weeks after that.

Any credit goes to Peter Hancock and his experience in these things. Baz - while they are doing those knees ask the orthopod surgeon what my father in law asked his surgeon when he had his knees replaced some years ago. He asked (not think here of my father in law as ex QLD Deputy Commissioner of police) with all seriousness mustered, "while you're at it fit a grease nipple in each knee so I can give them a few strokes each month to keep them smooth".

I wouldn't be too worried Baz, My 82 yr old aunt had both knees replaced at once and was up and walking 2 days later. The doctor told her to buy a skateboard ???? Apparently to use whilst she was sitting. Put one foot on the board and roll back and forward to exercise the new knee.

Merv,
My Surgeon replaced my right shoulder a few years ago and I have great confidence in him. However, we don't discuss health issues much. You see he's a Car Nut and is very proud of his Ferrari F460 Spyder with all the Ceramics. He reckons he can dust my Cobra over the 1/4.

Yeah Baz but will his Cobra have passed the 60,000 point checklist that your Cobra will? On the other hand, does he have any ex-patients at the RTA?
Paul - who knows what the gains will be. Time will tell. I remember the first time I drove it and thinking, "yeah, this is the one that could kill me!" Then there was the feeling that bit more power could be a useful thing. 300-350HP? I figure that is a nice figure for a Cobra for street use. I do know that it is a lot lighter with all that steel out of it.

Yes Victor the Gilmer lasted a month and then I repaired the alternator and had some nice ally pulleys made up for a ribbed belt. 4000ks on that with no problems.

Thanks Mick. I wanted the traditional look as much as performance gains. Nice pic of a potato (?) cod in your gallery. I scored one like that at Groote last year. Didn't want to be caught either!
Cheers,
PS hope you can come down for our first meeting of Sunshine Coast Cobras in July (date TBC).

Merv
Looking seriously good and fast. You really should dyno it just to see what you are up to. It will be an interesting combination with the R32 rear. Could you just blank out first gear somehow?!!
