Fantastic! A modern motor that brings back the Ford Cobra connection with great power output and low emissions. It looks to be a sizeable one?

Mac - I think we can't see that as it requires a Backdraft login and car number.

I copied the thread that Reg Dodd posted and pasted it here, I hope the picture shows up...Mac

"Hi there,

We are busy doing a trial fitment of a 5.0 engine into one of our cars. The engine is bigger than anything else we have ever tried to fit but we have managed to get it in. If everything goes well we hope to have the car running next week so we can star to evaluate the engine in our chassis. Ford Motorsport has been working closely with us to make this happen. If everything comes together we hope to have this car at the Charlotte Auto Fair at the end of the month."

Thanks Mac. It looks the business! Makes you realise how compact the old Ford small block was for its time.

Any pics of your Backdraft in your gallery Mac? Not many of them here, but one racing version I know of locally. They seem very good value.

If you believe the local car mags, the Ford Falcon XR8 will have this new engine and the FPV GT will be blown. Also reports of a GT HO using more boost than a standard GT.

And a twin cam as well. Very modern motor. Looking forward to seeing some Cobras here with that in.

This engine was first spied in Jan 2009. I've been keeping a close eye on it ever since. It has opened more questions than it has answered for me, especially now with the new Emissions testing.

Do you:
a) go Old school and try and put in a Windsor which I'm told by engineers "should" meet new emissions test - no-one has actually tried to pass one yet as the regulations are still fairly new.

b) Go LS7 - the iconic performance engine of the day and its a "427"

c) Shoe-horn one of these in.

I'd be interested to know peoples thoughts.

Many thanks,
Anth

or D) Go for the ford BIG BLOCK - but only one Engineer was open to even bothering to try pass it through emissions. So not really sure its an option.
