Default Defence Force Airshow at Williamtown

G'day all.

It now looks like I'll be making the trip from Sydney to check out the final day of the Defence Force Airshow at Williamtown airbase.

http://www.airforce.gov.au/airshows/

Just wondering if anybody from here will be there too?

I'm looking forward to taking some pics of the event. It'll be the first time I've visited an airshow with my camera gear, so should be a good learning experience.

I'll post some pics if they turn out OK.

Cheers.

Steve.

G'Day Steve,
A bit late, I went on Sunday....good show. The late air exhibitions were spectacular...F1-11 afterburner and low altitude flyovers were LOUD and exciting. I reckon the day was really good.

Default A long time ago!!

When i was a kid i went to the Williamtown air show was great my dad was in the air force so i use to get to watch mirages take off and land at night was bloody awsome.

When i got a bit older and joined my self i spent hours watching f111 s taking off at Amberly still bloody awsome.
Now my son is joining the navy i guess he will think the same thing .

My brother was a 75 squadron leader (F18's) until early this year. Mum and dad have a farm 30 minutes outside of Bathurst. A few years back he was returning from Canberra, and used the farm as a Nav point, putting on a 10 minute aerobatics display for dad sitting on the front verandah. Sat it on its tail and disappeared into the clouds at the end. I think they used to run at about $7000 and hour flying costs - that's where our taxes go fellas

G'day all.

Here's some pics as promised.

It was a pretty good day of flying, with a cool cross section of aircraft from the RAAF.

I was however a bit frustrated with the overcast day, with the lack of blue sky leaving the background somewhat bland. All in all I didn't manage to get the quality of shots that I'd hoped for.

Anyhow, it was a great event and a good photographic learning experience.

Great shots Stephen! Very sharp considering the speeds they must've been passing at. Shame about the lack of sunshine - that's Melbourne for you.

Default Great shots big fella!

OMG.....Those model aeroplanes and Jets almost look REAL!!

You can even see the little pilot figurines clearly! How cute!

The detail in these models is incredible!

Well done buddy!

Please forgive this American butting in, but the name of this thread brought back some fond memories. In 1985, I was commander of a group of instructor pilots who administered flight evaluations to student pilots in the T-38 at Williams Air Force Base. My assistant and the most feared flight examiner in my section was an Australian exchange officer named Steve Wright. He was a great fellow and I always wondered what became of him. The connections between Williamtown (Williams), flying and Australia brought it all back. And I loved the pictures.
