Default Factory Five Racing (FFR) Rollcall for Australia

Just wondering if there are any other FFR Roadsters (Cobra) or Type 65 Coupes (Daytona) currently in Australia, and if so, are they finished and registered, and also what version are they?

To start I know there is a Mk4 Roadster currently being built here in Perth, with another two Mk4's about to depart the USA (one being mine!), again for Perth.

I did hear (read somewhere) that one of the cobra builders over east might have ordered 3 Type 65 Coupes and maybe a roadster. Can anyone confirm that, and their status?

Any others?

Thanks

Tim

Hi Tim,

I have a FFR coupe here in Perth. I think the only one currently. The other that was here I believe to be over in QLD. (Albanycobra's old car)

Mine was licensed in june this year and I am currently completing a few small enhancements before starting to get a lot more use out of it.

I did a breaky run with the WA cobra club on the weekend after it was licensed and did around 400kms that day. All without trouble and all very comfortable.

cheers,
Ricky

Default mk4

hi Jethrow

I see you've just ordered a Mk4, what were FFR like to deal with and did they supply the car as RHD. Also how do you reckon rego will go. I'm thinking of buying a mk 4 myself.
All the best with the build

Mark

Hi Mark,

yes I have just ordered a Mk4. Generally I found FFR good to deal with but I do have to say if you want to talk with them, do it on the phone. They kinda suck at answering emails. I set-up a skype account and use that to ring them, works out quite well.

As for rego well I am feeling confident. In WA we seem to have a reasonable system here that does allow some common sense so I am hoping that continues. Also, there is already a Mk4 here in Perth, and another on its way, so there will be three of these fronting up for rego. Between us all I am hoping we can get it through.

The car is not supplied RHD, so a small challenge there. However, these cars are pretty symmetric so I do not think this will be too much of an issue. Will just have to play it all by ear, see how we go

All sounds good buddy, I spoke to my engineer today and he said there would be no problem getting it through rego.
FFR now seem to have a UK agent (which are just as bad at answering emails) so there might be some help with RHD there.
Keep us all posted on your progress, and who did you use for your shipping?

For me not sure as yet. The original is a mustang rack. I believe the couple of FFR Daytona's in town have used a cortina rack. I know of someone who is using a Ford FG rack. Also there are some companies in the US who make custom racks for not an unreasonable sum, so I am still thinking on it. In some ways I am waiting for kit to arrive so I can look at the LHD rack and consider from there.

So what engine option did you go for? The engineer I spoke to said the engine needs to be 2005 on to comply which from what I can work out Factory Five don't seem to do. What do you reckon your options are?

Mark.

In WA it's a little easier, we only have to be post 1999. But in any case I will use a LSx Chev motor. I like em for their light weight and compact size.

But one of the other guys over here is using a supercharged quad cam 5.4 GT500 motor from a 2008 mustang. I think the late model ford stuff suits the modular 4.6 mounts FFR refer to.

A few guys also using the new Coyote engine too, so that is an option.

Tim

Rohan,
thx for the WRX tip - I will look into it.

In the region 220 - 240 kg would cover it for the alloy block versions (which the aussie one's are - the truck blocks were iron)

I am using a company called C8Freightworks. They have been very helpful and also given the best price so far as well.

We had to do some research as to whether the kit constitutes a complete car (which would make import very difficult) but customs gave us a ruling which said so long as wheels and axles are not included, nor an engine or gearbox (which are not in kit anyway) then it is considered car parts only.

C8Freightworks are based in NSW, but are helping me in Perth so it's all good. http://www.go2mag.com/c8freightworks.html

Default Another FFR in Au.

Well, I just went and had a climb over the new 2nd hand ex racer FFR
Unfortunately, it isn't mine.

Latest cobra in emerald, qld is a FFR SP vehicle, apparently the 2nd one, or 2nd model made. (I was trying to absorb it all sorry). It has just come across from the US as parts and is now an assembled roller. Sturdy rollbar setup with 2 bars coming forward into the cockpit. It has seats, radiator, wiring, fuel bits etc, mustang f/r bits, no motor or trans.
The guy has a nice new DOHC with webbers on his floor, Oh to dream....

It will need to be readied for ADR's, had a look at some things today.
We are very interested to hear what others have done regards converting to RHD. Is TF Corty the go? Any clues on modding the mounts? Any cut and shut of the TF rack required?

Must nearly be more cobras in this area than the gold coast now LOL.
