Anyone a T56 expert?
I just picked up a T56 for my cobra and im trying to identify what ratios it is.
I was told it was from a VE SS 6lt Commodore. The id tag has been broken off and the sticker peeled off. Sounds a bit dodgey but i dont think it is.
The gearbox is the type that has the shifter on a bracket off the back of the box. Does anyone know how to ID it without the tag? Surely they dont make the only id on a removable tag. I know i can work out the raito by rotating it, but it is hard to do that acurately.
BTW there is a TUET number printed on the side but i cant quite make it out. It looks like TUET8391 or 8381 but these arent shown on their website.
Cheers.

From the description of the selector it does sound like a Commonwhore gearbox.

Yes it is a commondore, but i want to know what ratio. I think all the VE's had the shifter like that which is the same as the TR6060. But i think only the HSV and the W427 had the TR6060.

Maybe call Mal Wood in Warwick - he would know in a minute. Even send him a pic perhaps.

Hi Doubledip,
Im not sure. It has a sensor on the passenger side at the rear ( is this it?) and then a sensor towards the front on the driver side (reverse?). Do these boxes have a neutral sensor?
I found a post on another forum stating that this was what is in the VE. Can anyone confirm? This is not shown on the TTC link.

Going on your pics, that is a VE T56.
Reverse light switch on RHS front and VSS at rear.

That is the easy part. Drop it in first, count the input vs. output turns. Do the same in 6th. You'll know what the ratio is real fast. Without a tag, that is the only way to do it.
My guess is it will have a .5 sixth gear ratio, which gives it a 2.66 first according to the chart, since just about all the T56's with that input output spline count have that ratio.

Is it easier to read after removing all but 26/27 spline count?
There is still a 2.97 First with .50 sixth.

if you know it is a VE, surely the VE ratios are known/published? Call Holden?

Well i discovered why i couldnt figure out what it is. It is a TUET8381 which is not listed on the TTC website or any of the other lists floating around.
I emailed TTC a few days ago and got a response last night. The ratio is different to all the boxes on the list:
1st = 3.01
2nd = 2.07
3rd = 1.43
4th = 1.00
5th = 0.84
6th = 0.56
Thanks for the input everyone.
