Kirkham Motorsports University Billet Aluminum 427 FE Engine Block
This is well done, now if we could use them in Aus.

This block looks different from the early wood models. It appears to use four bolt mains without provision for cross bolts. Still very cool! Gotta love 65#, with sleeves mains and studs it should still come in around 100# or less - especially if they use 6061 for the caps. Ed |

...and I'm planing/considering on it! 90-day club plate rego in Vic. I'll let you know how it all goes in the coming months... |
Most impressive! Wow, and you cut weight savings by 50lbs or more off the other blocks. Shelby advertises theirs as 150pds
|
For mine it isn't really about the weight...
More that it was done by artists. Most to all V8s are really overkill in a car of this weight. ...and you'd probably agree if you've ever driven a clubman. |
Dimis what internals are you going to use in the 427 FE?
|
Thats what dreams are made of !!

The whole project is in its infancy. I'm miles away from even confirming engine details... block etc! I'm tossing up a range of ideas... including a KC Alu 482, right through to an even LS7, and others in between (You can blame Heidelberg for the LS7 his SPF with LS7 looks bang on, and would go like the stink, with full ABS traction control, full race logic and get 25+ mpg). I'm still trying to get a Kirkham landed. The deal has been done verbally, and I'm keen, but.... there are hurdles we are negotiating. If I ever get this thing landed & over the line I'll be as happy as a pig in mud! Open to you thoughts and suggestions... Best wishes, |
The LS7 is the easiest way to go and will comply in all states or the new 5L Coyote motor as well. I think it depends on what sort of look and feel you want for your Cobra old school or modern.
Good luck on your build. |
Old School look with 8 stack intake, but... no sence in missing out on the modern day advances.
It's going to all be about compromise. I guess the Kirkham billet block gives an old school block a modern day twist. I'm tipping that they'd cost an absolute motza and thus perhaps prohibitive... Time will tell... |
Oh for gods sake, just fit an LSX!
|
Gavin, I've heard of LS1,LS2,LS3 and LS7, but what the fu$k is an LSX?
Regards. |
The man wants the original Ford Cobra combo - a Ford Coyote, or

An expensive way to build an engine....with a milling machine. What's wrong with a Carol Shelby alloy cast block machined correctly ? He didn't say how heavy the complete engine weighed.
|
I agree Rob. There is no need to go the LS route when the best is still available. :)

The Aussie rules and regulations put the brakes on some of our desires as far as engines go. I wanted the ENGINE to be a 427....rather than the BADGE on the side of the car, so went the LS7 "route". Should do the job ! Cheers Warren. |
Just joking Warren. The LS7 is a beaut.
|
That's cool...I've got a foot in each camp anyway...a 347 Windsor in the Red Racer also "does the job ".
Cheers, Warren. |
