Un-pingpong bat-ish was exactly the look I was going for !!

Nice build, I love the LS3/ Tremec 6060 combo.Do you need torsional and beaming tests or are they supplied with the kit?You might want to check with your engineer about your seat mounting brackets and steering column, not sure if they will satisfy ADRs.Look forward to seeing your build progress.

Hi Killer,
there are a few Factory Fives already registered in Perth, so I am not expcting too many hassles.
Thanks for the comments - appreciate it.

First Drive!!!

http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...um/ffr103a.JPG

So managed to score a break from work between christmas and new years and in between the christmas turkey and spending time with family and friends, I managed to get in some good cobra time ....

The result being that today I drove my car for the first time. Yay me :)

http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...ium/ffr100.JPG

Was only three laps round the block but still it drove under it's own power. First impression is that it does not seem to be lacking for go! Stopping however was a bit more challenging - I am sure the brake balance needs some adjusting, as well as me getting used to the no assist. The steering also needs alignment, the suspension set, etc etc, but it was still awesome.

I manged to take the wife and kids on those three laps to help share in the excitement and to let them be a part of it all too. Oldest boy got first go as he helps in the garage the most, but the youngest enjoyed it too.

Overall I am very pleased.

That's awesome!
Merry Christmas!

Just one thing... Looks like your kit's missing it's doors and bonnet lid :p

Nice work Tim. Looks excellent! More motivation for me....

And I'm not surprised the LS3 seems to be "not lacking for go!".

My FFR was delivered April 2011, so it's been fun reading your progress. I had it painted last March and put ~4,500 miles on it last summer. I currently have the body off for the winter, for some final upgrades and to-do's. They are a blast to drive!

Cool build Tim! Enjoying your posts, Thanks for sharing!
Converting from LHD to RHD wasn't enough, you throw in an LS3 and center the engine and have custom headers made! Wow! NICE JOB!
That LS3 looks KILLER in there! Have fun with it!

Well done.....love the first drive, It's when you realise all the hard work is going to pay off and all the hard jobs seem much easier as you push to registration...

750hp 01-06-2015 02:57 AM

Well done Tim. There's so much more elbow room without the doors in place...

The car is coming together really nicely. Rego before Australia Day? Everyone loves a deadline!

Jethrow 01-07-2015 08:06 PM

Hi everyone and thanks for all the likes!

For the west aussie lads, can I ask how you go about applying for the exemptions for the seat belts and sidepipes? Is there a form I need to complete? And do I do that in parallel to the VIN number application?

Thanks

albanycobra 01-07-2015 09:19 PM

Best talk to your Engineer as some wont sign off the car even with the exemptions...especially when it comes to seat belts.

Aussie Mike 01-07-2015 11:36 PM

Hey Tim, Great result!

I'm running the same Kirkey vintage buckets but haven't driven the car with them yet. They seem pretty comfortable sitting in the car making broom broom noises. How did you find them for comfort on your test drive?

Cheers

Cobrakiller 01-08-2015 05:53 PM

Talk to your engineer regarding the exemptions, what type of engine harness / ecu did you use? Have any issues getting it to run.

So it was only a short drive around the block a couple times, but I was happy with them. I still would not mind sitting a bit lower if I could so I may trim the base foam a little.

I used the GMPP ECU and harness. Overall it was OK, if a bit long in places. But it was easy to set up and get it running. Engine started first time!

Hey Tim, looks like your build is coming along well. Mine is go karting also and the body is out for paint. I am just fitting out the carpet now.

TR6060 Mk 4 question

Hello Tim,
I am very impressed with your build and have a question regarding the fitment of your TR6060. I am in the process of selecting a transmission for my IRS equipped 4.6L(SC 2003 cobra) and strongly favor the TR6060 due to availability and drivability. In this thread, the installation of your TR6060 seemed fairly straightforward however wanted confirm as everyone at FFR is indicating that it cannot be done...I now know better based on your build.

Thansk
Brad

Jethrow 06-15-2015 02:13 AM

Hi Brad,

I had no real troubles fitting in this transmission at all. And I run the live axle! Seeing as I have a LS3, requiring custom engine mounts, I just placed the engine/trans combo where it would all work.

That said, I am pretty sure the Australian FFR importer (Chris) used a mod motor plus TR6060 in his car with no real issues either.

Canadian Cobra 06-15-2015 08:23 PM

Hi Tim,

Thanks for the confirmation! I wish I had seen your thread prior to buying my engine as I am an LS guy to the core! How is she running these days?

Thanks again
Brad
