BSA RIms

I was getting some slicks balanced on the weekend when my fitter mate asked me about my rims etc... he said does anyone use BSA rims on Cobras? Said dunno, probably.... Anyway he said have a look at this....

A locals Suzuki Vitara hit a pot hole and this was the net result! I've never seen anything like it. He's a BSA retailer and didn't have much, if anything good to say about them Apparently no warranty!!! And they made him pay for 2 new ones!!! Nice...

Gee Matt that would be a worry. Look how thin the shell is and probably made out of recycled coke cans.
Certainly would not be able to use them here in Mexico, potholes are like bomb craters. I actually concidered a Suzuki as a cheap runabout.

Have I got this right ? He's retailing BSA rims and they don't have any warranty ? You would have thought that he would have checked before taking on the product for sale.

There is obviously much more to the story but in essence they offer warranty...apparently....but not when their rims split! Bit like Australian Insurance companies.. You pay your premium and then when it comes to make a claim...YOUR NOT COVERED!

The safety rim/ridge looks like it's there to meet compliance specs. Not to do what it's supposed to do. This is another fine example of government incompetency with just ticking the box and not checking the quality.....similar to registration processes in NSW.

Are those rims DOT or ADR approved?
If so I would suggest that relevant governing bodies (MTA thru to DOT and RTA?) should be informed of the danger. It could be quite within the realms of reality that a rim that splits in such a manner and 'blown' apart by air pressure would result in a severed brake line keading to ....????

Anyways, thanks to your mate for informing us all.

I saw the result of a VX commodore which had the same thing happen with a set of aftermarket wheels about 18 months ago.
Not sure of the brand, but they where a similar looking wheel (aren't they all now though?)
