Hi everyone. I sent PMs to all interested parties a bit over a month ago. Boxhead has opted out but I haven't heard from the others. Mic n Gill, Pills, Krait, HOTCOB427...?

There was no formal interest from the CCCV (local club) so it doesn't look like this will go ahead folks. I'll be cutting and extending the hardtop to suit my car in the next few months.

Just for the record Paul, I am still interested as per my PM.
It sounds like all the other interested parties have gone quiet.
I wonder if the price is the sticking point. For the sake of the argument, if you had interest from lets say 10 people, is the price to copy and produce likely to come down?
It would be a shame to let this great opportunity that you are providing lapse.
I for one have drooled over these DB hardtops for some time.

I must admit Sambo I would like to have the mould taken after you extend the top to suit the Harrison.

Chris, yes - naturally more orders would help spread/recoup the production costs. At $4000 asking price for the kit I almost break even if I can sell 7 hardtops. I might discount by $100 if I got 10 orders but I doubt that's enough to sway those sitting on the fence.

Thanks for the interest Alffie. If you can rustle up another 6 people for the extended version I'd be happy to oblige.

Hi Sambo
How did you go with the hard top? Did you extended it with good results?

Have you spoken with Bill Emerson from Emerson Motorsports? I think he will agree with you on the costs of producing a speciality hardtop. The one he built for mine was 1 1/2 years in the making. In my mind (and my pocketbook) it was worth it. The sun here in Phoenix is brutal in the summers and this gives me a way to stay out of it. I then added A/C to really spoil myself. Makes it a 365 day a year car.

Hi Alffie. Just trying to get the car through full registration in roadster form. Hardtop will follow at a later date and I'll need to comply with appropriate ADRs - but first things first eh.

mto - although we're in Australia, I'm sure the same issues apply. Difficult to get right for individual cars but well worth the effort given extreme conditions throughout the year.

Watch this space.

Hi Alffie, not yet - two years later! Next job is a mid shifter conversion on my gearbox and I might tackle the hardtop after that. Or the fuel sender. Or the seats. Or AP brakes. Or...

Hope its ok to post on this topic but here's a couple of pics of the new BDR hardtop in either glass or carbon fibre. Certainly a little different from what we've seen to date.

Looks like it lets you open the boot easily. I wonder what effect that rear window recess has on the aero?

Cheers

I really prefer their old one with the window frame being a part of the top and the full fast back with side scupper panels. Sadly they destroyed the moulds ARGH!!!!

The new one is actually reminiscent of the early C3 Corvette rear window (68-74)

Cheers

Apparently (I haven't seen it) at speed my rear window flexes down indicating probably 300grams downforce :0
So loosing the window at the rear window probably wouldn't amount to much.

This is my kind of rear window! As some of you may know Peter Brock , the man of Shelby Cobra Daytona fame worked for the other side before moving to Shelby. He started out working for GM and had a hand in the styling of the 63 Corvette Stingray.

You guys had me wondering what a split-window style hard top would look like on a Cobra, so I whipped one up and slapped it onto this Dax roadster (XCS, actually). Looks nice to me - but it might give some of the faithful a nasty heartburn.

Hey Mic, sorry no updates. We're super busy with work and maintaining a rural property nowdays. Aussie Mike is doing a gearbox mod at the moment and the car is up on the hoist with various jobs underway. Hardtop has a protective coating of dust!

Hi Paul. Mate I thought by now it would have been fitted. It only took me a year to make the mods on mine and then another to finally get it painted. I was embarrassed to send you a pic as promised as it took so long. Anyhow this is it fitted.
