Surely just a couple of good coats of haymes gloss acrylic in baby blue will suffice Dave?

boxhead 01-19-2012 07:05 AM

Trying to do the engine bay right,so I wont have to pull the motor out again.

Had some bits arrive today.
http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j.../photo-519.jpg

So when I got home I started fitting it all up, and got carried away and just kept fitting bits (should have been sanding engine bay)

http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...photo-2342.jpg
Had to shorten a few leads to make them right, but figured I would spend the time doing it now.

And so the Cobra does not feel left out, these ariived today too.

Cheers Phil.

Dave I believe that it's mandatory for new engine parts to be fitted as soon as they arrive, ( they can even be fondled-if no one is looking!)
It's clearly defined in the authoritative " The Gentlemans Guide to being a RevHead" by IM NOTABOGAN :LOL::LOL: :D ;)

renovationinnov 01-19-2012 09:27 PM

Paint has arrived, guess what I will be doing all weekend.

Modena 01-20-2012 02:06 AM

I think we would all rather be bolting on nice new shiney engine bits than sanding.....

It's all starting to come together Dave. I don't envy your weekend, but you know it will be worth it in the end. :)

Rob. Smith 01-20-2012 02:24 AM

Sanding is very therapeutic ...you get to think about other stuff whilst you are doing it. Then it gets dangerous when all those thoughts turn into plans and projects and you are still sanding and expanding on those new 'brilliant' ideas !

I like to sand !

boxhead 01-20-2012 07:11 AM

Tonights progress.
http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...photo-1511.jpg

And with 3 coats of 2K primer Hi Fill.
http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...photo-2184.jpg

Wet sanding tomorrow, prediction is for 42 degrees and a good chance of rain.
Does not feel like any chance of rain, so dry and hot.

Rog246 01-20-2012 01:44 PM

Lookin' good Dave, George will be kicking up his heels in no time the way your going mate ;)

DaveW 01-20-2012 09:02 PM

Dave,
While your in the shed tonight, could you do me a favour and run a tape measure across the fan diameter on your twin system,
I cant find any details on Finishline,

Much appreciated,

DaveW

boxhead 01-20-2012 09:46 PM

Will do Dave.
Did you also see the fans Phil has fitted to "The Orphan" as the motors looked alot more compact than mine. Although I think mine will look smaller when motors are painted black.

A very hot weekend out here in the centre.
Saturday arvo I was out in the shed, wet sanding, cleaning, drying, prepsoling etc.
Got to this stage before calling it a night and taking Ronda out for dinner with Chinese new year.
Looks nice and low here.
http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j.../photo-842.jpg

Masked up early this morning and squirted color on.

http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...photo-1323.jpg

Had to go up town this morning and do some work, also grabbed some gloss black enamel to paint engine cradle and suspension parts.
By the time I got home, it is just too hot in the shed, so I reco'd the cluster till the heat drops out a bit (Gotta be mid 40's right now).
http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j.../photo-958.jpg

And all cleaned up, with repainted needles.

Great work.

David

Absolutely fantastic looking job so far. Looking forward to each new development. The big red engine will look great in the coloured up engine bay.

With the amount of work you are doing, it will be as good as new. Will you reset the odo? Will give you a clear record of the miles travelled since *new*.

Geof

Modena 01-22-2012 04:22 AM

looking great, nice one Dave!

boxhead 01-22-2012 07:01 AM

Cheers Guys.
I did think about winding back the speedo, but the 89 thousand displayed is the actual Miles it has traveled, so decided to leave that as is.
I have painted the K frame, pulleys oil pipes etc tonight, it was just too hot through the day. Also fitted little bits and pieces on the motor (coil, hoses, blanking vacuum bungs, PCV hoses, vac advance hoses)

Dave W, the fans are 9 inches across the fan face.

boxhead 01-28-2012 02:47 AM

I did not realise that 6 cyl and V8 alternators are different, so I will see my sparky mate and see if he can swap out front housing or supply a new correct alt.

I restocked the fridge.

http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...photo-1448.jpg

After that important task, I got stuck into making a strong bench to sit the engine and box on to slip under George when he is on the hoist.

My welding skills are improving.

http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...photo-1195.jpg

http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...photo-2286.jpg

I finished that on Friday night, then started to sort out pulleys, it must have been getting late as I just could not think clearly (pre beer).

Anyway I walked away for a while and figured I would sort out the accelerator cable bracket.

http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...photo-1463.jpg

Then came back to the pulley and realised I had forgotten a pulley spacer.

So then it was beer time.

http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...photo-1432.jpg

Into it again this morning, got the pulleys on, and fitted mounts etc and K frame, up onto new trolley, fitted the gearbox and cross member.

http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...photo-2125.jpg

Then adjusted the heights so the K frame base and rear cross member mounts are in correct relation to George on the hoist, fitted the extractors, and as is typical, tightening the very last stud, it snapped.

So R/H header off (glad it happened on the bench and not when I was trying to fit headers with engine already in), drilled out stud and retapped, refitted header and the time had ome, time to mate these together for the first time.

http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j.../photo-333.jpg

Snug as a bug in a rug.

http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...photo-1706.jpg

Called it a night early today (sore feet) and had a good clean up, got the mounts all in, fuel line fitted, tailshaft fitted, so Dave is a happy boy.

Tomorrow is cleaning suspension parts and refitting them.

Outwest34au 01-28-2012 03:58 AM

Great stuff, it looks so happy shiny and fresh.
George will be sporting a proud smiling grille while he drags your toys around.

You really show what can be done in a short time when you're keen and motivated, makes me feel guilty frankly lol.

Keep up the effort Dave.

Modena 01-28-2012 05:04 AM

Fantastic work. Good to see you have Tasmania's Finest there, I was going to say WTF is the XXXX doing taking up valuable fridge space?!?!?!?!
