Glad to post that I can make it to Shelby Fest this year. Sadly missed attending last year due to commitments. Looks like we have quite a few QLDers going.

For anyone that is undecided about going, Shelby Fest is a fantastic meet, very well run race program and a great social event all in one, not to be missed.

Craig good to see you and the Qld. gang are heading down south.

Will be great to see you there - possibly one or two of the Kirkham cars as well..

Default No suprises this year

Have the regs been sorted for the event.

If there are changes, and it sounds like there is, it would be good to know well in advance.

It would be dissapointing if there are suprises like last year.

Phil, I believe the classes are <5 litre, 5 to 6 litre & over 6 litre + supercharged. Street tyres for overall champion, slicks for race car class. I'll be running grooved tyres this year but will take slicks for Friday practice. Pete (<5litre), Proc (5 to 6 litre) John (Gt40), Warren & Warwick (racecars) & I (6 litre & over) will all be down for the event. There may be others as well I am not sure.

Thanks Ash,

Is there a separate race class, or is greater than 6ltr and super charged include race cars like wazza?

Phil

Phil, I believe the classes etc used are now the same as used at the Nationals. I also believe that the regs etc will be out shortly.

I'm not one of the organisers, just someone that has been in communication with them about the event this year.

The regs are great; keeping them similar to The Nationals is a good thing, as most Shelby fest entrants also enter the Nationals so some uniformity will only strengthen the event.

A couple of thing with the classing:

1. Will the capacity criteria give an even split of competitors? If you look at cars with similar spec and performance a few CCs see them over 2 classes.

I would say a better split would be 5100 to 5900. This would then capture the 331/ 347 windsors, 351 cleveland/windsors, 350 chev and LS1.

Then greater than 5900 including forced induction. This will then capture entrants such as Don Stafford, Wayne Procter, Ash Bright, Keith Baxter and I. A more closely matched set of competitors when looking at capacity and engine type.

I also think that something similar should be looked at for the nationals as this may reduce the size of class 3 and move some competitors into class 4.

2. With the shot out will this include the race car class?

Phil

Craig,
I see you are a major sponsor of the Shelby Fest this year.

I am always overwhelmed by your support of the cobra community. It is a better place with you and your company involved.

Thankyou.

Phil

Thanks Phil, no big deal really and to be honest it's the least I can do is to help out where I can with club events like this. Don't have the time these days to volunteer, so help out financially instead.

Default Shelbyfest Accomodation

Hi Everyone,

For those competing at ShelbyFest please make sure you book in at the Hotel. Also mention you are there with the Cobra Car Club of Victoria to get the corporate rate.

Please make this a priority as the hotel will ask me to release reserved rooms if they are not taken.

Hi Phil, Thanks for the feedback. I will make sure it gets discussed at the next meeting.

Cheers

Tony

Phil I think your on to something there. I agree that class 3 Is getting large with a lot of 363 windsors coming on board and LS 3s. With my own view I have no problem being in with the blown engines as well as the big blocks but I hope never to be in a class were there is only a very small field of entrants. The Nationals last year would have been o/k as there were a few in the class but there are times at shelbyfest were there may only be 3 or 4 cars. That would be disappointing for me. So does that mean Phil that I am in "A" Class and your still in "B" Class???? LOL So you could always just enter in my class if you like Phil. But on a serious note though, I think your idea for the nationals sounds great

Also this year Daytonas are finally being seen as a cobra. Fitting for this being the 50th anniversary for Shelby Cobra. Maybe the nationals will take this on board as well

HI Keith,
I am in your class, my engine is 6.04 ltrs. I too have no issue with that as it is probably where I need to be.

My engine is based on a dart block with a 4 1/8th bore. It has a stroke of 3.4 and a rod length of 5.4.

Depending on what pistons you use and the final bore size, some of these combos are just under 6 ltrs, 5980cc. Others are just over at 6040cc. I think it is stupid to put a line thru the middle and have some in class 2 and some in class 3. We all should be in class 3 for the shelby fest.

We are talking about a 1% difference in capacity for what are essentially the same engines. Not sure that is a fair competition.

Just my 2 cents

Hey, I am watching you boy...

Phil

Yeah me too, I am 6.04 litres but Proctor is 5.98..... I think the LS1 & VE 6 litre is just under but LS2 & 3 I think are over?

LS1's are 5.7Ltr
LS2 L76 and L98 are all 5.967 Ltr
LS3 is 6.162Ltr.

I agree that a bit of a re-shuffle is required for class three, how exactly to do that will not be simple, but it seemes silly to have three quarters of the feild in one class.
The inclusion of the Daytonas IMHO is a step in the right direction.

i tend to agree with the engine size split you recommend Phil.
But I do know of some members that have built just under 6lt so they slot in to the lower class.

I think if the Nationals and Shelby move the posts at the same time there would be less sooking.

Tony and I are in the twilight of our Shelbyfest organising, so it will be interesting to see the event continue and evolve with fresh heads steering in years to come.

Hi Jason,
That is fair enough about the new builds, however it is still unfair and stupid.

Makes the "competition" a bit redundant for me, its not a true contest.

Phil, is that because the class you are in (>6L and F/I) is very small in numbers?
