Liam, Septone 'Ali-Brite' is pretty good at bringing up the metal to a clean state...simply dilute, paint on and rinse off with water. Have a look at the Septone website under "trade range" then...acid cleaners.

I just went back into the Septone site to see what else is new and there is a new aluminium cleaner that says it's to be used for etching prior to painting...have a look under 'New Products'

Hi Rob,

Good find. The Ali Brite says it removes oxide which is good. I think i will wash it with that first then sand it. At least if there are any low spots i miss, i will know its clean.

Just need to find somewhere that sells it now.
