Default Racing Clothing

I'm considering some reasonably priced trackday gear.

What's your thoughts on single or multi layer Nomex clothing, both FIA approved, and whether a one piece or jacket/pants combo is better.

Cheers

Greg

Greg,
Depends on how much you want to spend. Most of the racing we do you can get away with jeans & long sleeve T shirt. I would suggest maybe go with that until you decide how much ur going to race. A suit like mine retails for about $2k, but thanks to eBay & a defunct V8 Supercar team it was a fraction of that. Fire suits won't stop you from burning it just buys you more time....

these Simpson suits are pretty cheap, only a few hundred $ but only single layer, maybe do the job until I take on the big league?

Here's a few things that you might need.... All packaged up together as a sort of " starter pack "......

Wow Wazza, I bought a similar package from Revolution racegear a few years ago, and that was about $1200 from memory.

The 2 piece stuff (Drag Racing Gear) is fairly stiff and restrictive and pretty sure not allowed by cams.

In my opinion single layer suits are only as good as a pair of jeans and long sleeve shirt.

I would go with a 3 layer suit.

My reasoning is that the $300.00 spent on a single layer is money wasted and only makes the price of a good suit $300.00 more when you realize you need to protect your self better.

The best way to answer your question is when you are stuck in your car and it is burning, what suit do you wish you had on then?

Default safety gear

I agree with Phil... You never ever want to have to use it.... BUT.....

Mate, buy the best you can afford.. I'd be going 3 layer 1 piece plus a very very good helmet and then keep going till your credit runs out! It need not be driver error that causes an issue...Sometimes its just the racing gods that like to have their say...

There are 3 piece suits ex NASCAR on USA ebay 2nd hand that are great buys.. If you want to try mine on to get an idea of what the different manufactures sizing is no probs. I have a PUMA and an OMP. I'm sure Ash wouldn't mind you trying on his either. If you want to run your car at the track definitely take your safety seriously. I know its hard as its alot of coin when starting out but thats the way it rolls I guess.

Let me know if you want a hand. I'm OK mates with Ryan Mcleod who owns Racer Industries and I'm sure he will look after you if you want some gear.

Thanks fellas

I'm one of those crazy motorcycle riders that actually wears a kevlar jacket and pants without exception, I shudder when i see blokes on rice rockets, sometimes with their girlfriends on the back, with thongs, singlets and shorts.... So I'm hearing you Matt.

Wazza, I spotted those on fleabay as well as the Simpson one that initially caught my interest
eBay Australia: Buy new & used fashion, electronics & home d
ends in a few hours though
Summit have a heap as well at a similar price.

I might let the auction go and just wait till the weekend, check out your gear then

cheers

I give in....
I've tried three times to edit/delete this second post but I can't.
This either serves to doubly remind everybody that Waz has on occasion taken to the track sans pinkie protectors, or it makes me look like a twit 'cause the puter won't let me delete my double post. Great!

That is insane value.
My old speedway twin layer set me back around $500 way back when. With that and fire proof long sleeve skivvy and long pants at extra cost the fear of a firey death was secondary. Apart from the suit we also had a basic horseshoe neckbrace as part of the rules.
