Hi All
Post #1. I’ve been a car enthusiast for as long as I can remember.
If all goes to plan I should be starting my Cobra Build mid 2013.
Currently I’m surfing this site and the web for info. Lots of good info here : )
So far I have joined the CCCV, haven’t been to any club meetings yet, but I did go to the Breakfast in South Melbourne a few weeks ago.
It was great meeting & talking to some of the Cobra owners and
seeing the cars on the road, sure did fire me up!!!!

In a couple of weeks I’m going to visit Classic Revival and check out their Kits.
So far I’m leaning towards a LS3 engine mainly because I’m a HSV owner. Also I may be able to get my hands on a low k LS3 which is being removed from a Maloo to make way for a Big Block.
Colour schemes is another big decision??? Black with Steel Gray Stripes is one option or British Racing Green with Silver Stripe is another. Who knows for now I could end up going with something completely different.
My wife wants Pink with a White stripe……….What The!!!!!
She can build her own Cobra……..

Anyway I have a big weekend of Car Stuff ahead.
Friday, Elthem – Yea – Woodend Cruise with a few mates.
Saturday, Motorclassica for a look see.
Sunday, Cranbourne Home Markers Centre Show & Shine with the HSV crew.

Hi there.
I have a LS3 in my Harrison car. The LS3 is a great engine and can build some power.

I have also gone the black with silver stripes, it's a great combination.

Good luck with the build.

Welcome to the monkey house.

There are loads of people here that will be more than happy to give you an opinion of what you should or shouldn't do with your car.
Take your time, have a look at a few different cars but any way you go I am sure you will be happy.
The CR is a great kit, I am very happy with mine, but it is an earlier chassis to the current one. Give Harrison a look in and no one could go past Absolute Pace with out at least seeing what they have to offer.
Good luck with your search.

BTW an LS3 is probably the best engine for one of these cars on offer at the minute, and remember Shelby went to Chev first

Welcome to the world of Cobras.

I built a "round-tube chassis" Classic Revival (with LS1) and luv it. There are also 3 others in MElb who are building Classic Revivial kits at present, if you come to the next CCCV meeting we can have a chat. Definately recommend you go see each of the manufacturers Gav mentioned. Then chat to people who have or are building them for the "challenges" each kit presents. Most have been solved so no need to worry.

Cheers Gregg

Thanks for the advise and the PM's. I will try and get along to a CCCV meeting soon.
Can anyone recommend a Good Engineer?
And how soon before starting the build should I contact an Engineer?

G'day d488y2 - your name reminds me of Star Wars for some reason?

Jean Christophe (JC) Bonneville is just about to rubber stamp my Cobra, couldn't meet a nicer guy. He consults to Enklemens after previous employment there. He works closely with Kenmer Cobra kits in Noble Park. Do yourself a favour and checkout the Kenmer kit as well as having a chat to Jean Christophe - more info at the link below.

Individually Constructed Vehicle (ICV)

Like me, engine and paint colour seemed really important at the start of the build but you need to build your car for compliance and that means building a car that your engineer will ultimately sign-off on. Find an engineer and a kit supplier who are keen to work with you beyond getting that rolling chassis out the door and you're 90% of the way there. It's the little things that matter, like, "will those euro 4 cats fit underneath my floor". Take it from me.

Also ask your engineer whether any new ADRs have been introduced recently. They usually have a three year grace period and Cobra builders don't find out until it's too late. Point in case, the recent changes to minimum seat height. It kicked in last July and most engineers would've known about it three years earlier. Needless to say I didn't get the memo, which equates to time and money I could've spent elsewhere.

Not meaning to scare you off - it just pays to be informed. It's all part of the fun in getting your Cobra on the road. Best of luck with your decision - exciting times ahead!

Thanks Everyone for the Engineer Recommendations.

Paul,
I’ve been out to Kenmer and I think I saw your car up on the Hoist.
Well Done with getting it on the Road.
My user name d488y2 is just something I created from my real name.
