Default ICV and statutory write offs

I've an new project in the pipeline....

Can I use an engine from a statutory written off vehicle in a new ICV?

Are the rules different in each state?

Thanks

The L98 in the Rodeo came from a statutory write off. They didn't say anything at Qld Transport when the engine number was used for the 'blue plate'.

Satutory write off i am pretty sure only applies to the VIN number

My Cobra ICV was built using an engine and gearbox from a statutory write off. They just needed the engine number and VIN number to confirm on thier database etc. This was in Vic so not sure about other states. Cheers Gregg

Hi Guys

A vehicle that has been declared as a statutory writeoff cannot be repaired and re registered as it is deemed that no amount of repair can be done in a way that would leave the vehicle safe.

But there is nothing to stop all the parts being transferred into another vehicle or used in an ICV and being registered.
All doors, bonnet, boot lid, mechanicals etc can be used for parts, it is just the body shell / chassis that can't be used

When a vehicle is written off the VIN number is recorded and flagged as permanently unable to be reused and that the body has been destroyed.

Dimi.

Thanks for all the replies

I couldn,t get a definative answer from qld transport websites. I left a message and they actually called back!

Anyway, as you say, all's good to reuse the engine as long as it hasn't been sunk ( i'm really gonna want to do that)

Cheers, off to pick up my new project tomorrow......
