Fast efi
Has anyone used the FAST EFI system? I have a stroker 414 with 8 Stack to fit to my 40 after rego (for racing purposes only Mr Plod) and was wondering if anyone had used the set up with the auto tune on an angry motor and had good success?
Will be TPS only. |
Wouldn't you at least need to have MAP as well otherwise there is no way for the ECU to detect engine load?

I always tell people to find a good local tuner and find what ecu they like U could have a motec but if the tuner is a microtech specialist well u won't get to far Find a brand with good support as well No use buying and aftermarket ecu from USA when we have one of the best ranges Of aftermarket ecus in the world in Australia |

Ok just checked the fast efi system is a self learning so I guess u don't need a tuner

There are some myths about EFI, especially with a big cam.
The basic fuel map can be simply throttle position and RPM. That along with careful tuning of the accel enrichment will get you a pretty good running car. If you can add a secondary load, then add in a MAP sensor. When you apply a small load - like pulling a small hill - that won't be enough to trigger the accel enrichment, but the engine would run a little bit lean. Adding a map load will fix that and prevent a bog there. Otherwise you just have to run it really rich all the time. Self learning works pretty good - to a point. But it still leaves holes that need to be filled, and bumps that need to be smoothed. You'll also want to make small changes here and there for drivability, cold start, warm up, hot weather, al;titude, etc. With good software and patience, you can get the tune really close. To get it perfect - especially at the high rpm ranges - a dyno will really help. |

Self tune or auto tune still requires someone to determine what values the ECU needs to aim for, and that's all about drivability. If only it was as easy as filling a target AFR table with 14.7:1 @ idle and 12.5:1 @ WOT, dynos wouldn't exist as a tuning tool. |
yes self tune is **** on most cheap ish ecus
to run a wideband O2 and get correct reading to do self tuning u need an O2 module or whatever they are called and if u have a big cam expensive ecus can map both map and throttle and cheap ecus can just do one or the other this is why a lot of people don't realise how good some std ecus are they read map sensor and throttle sensor and air flow meter all at the same time and when u get a good tuner u can tune it no matter what cam is it |
I have had Wolf, motec, and played with Microtech.
The last car I got dynoéd had good full power but drove like a pig. An hour with a good mixture gauge and a Mate with a lap top making adjustments got the car purring like a Kitten....This was a TPS tune. My 8 stack manifold has no provision for vacuum. You can get a TPS tune work very well. I am looking for a set up that is easy to get started? My Wolf had all sorts of problems with crank sensors. I ended up with a Ford dissy with holden VT 5.0ltr internals. The auto tune would be a nice feature to carry out fine trim adjustments. The American efi packages seems more user freindly when it comes to getting the basic package up and running. |
The old wolfs were pretty bad. The new v550 is not to bad
Can do heaps and can even control an auto gbox just like a factory ecu |
A Mates has got a V5 on his angry 347, TPS tune. works well but needed the same dodgy half Holden ford dissy to work with coil packs.
I am thinking fuel only with cdi ignition |

I have the full XFI 2.0 kit with injectors, rails, loom, intake manifold, ecu, dizzy etc and it works really well. After my mechanic inatalled the system and installed the generic map for our spec engine + mods (347), the car was sent to the tuner. He said that he though the base map was about "75% there". A few days of expert tuning including, power runs, cold starts etc sorted that out. The tuner is very experienced and was very impressed with the features of the system.
I have had a little experience with auto-tunes on power commanders for road bikes and although they might be able to make incremental adjustments for elevation, and general atmospheric conditions, it is not a viable alternative for a proper tune by an experienced professional. I've also had auto-tunes mess with perfectly good maps...I found that once I had a setup that I was happy with, I would disable the auto-tune.... Just my 2c. The only issue that we had was that there was a 12 month gap between the time that we purchased the system from the U.S. and installation. In that time a fault in the ecu became apparent to the manufacturer and all subsequent kits installed are now required to have an separate ignition module to be fitted to avoid extra load on the ECU. We didn't receive this advise and subsequently we endured down time to fix that very problem. Once diagnosed, it was an easy (if not necessarily cheap) fix 😉. My mechanic has already bought a FAST setup for his own car and another of his clients is in the process of purchasing a kit after seeing my cobra. I would be happy to reccomemend one 👍. |

And some u need a cam signal too Ford dizzys don't have the crank and cam signal in the dizzy Holden vt dizzy has both an 8 pulse crank signal and a single cam pulse inside the dizzy Ford later went to a 58 pulse on the crankshaft pulley and single pulse on the cam That's y u won't find a ford dizzy with both signals inside |

Can get great results from TPS tuning only.
But you need a lot of resolution in the map especially around part throttle. Throttle response is much better than MAP tuning as it's instant, no decay time as the vaccum moves. |

But when it's distributerless it normally has a 58 tooth reluctor wheel on front crank harmonic balancer just like the au v8s. When running std ecus
So if the ecu can handle this setup then its fine I recently did a Haltech on a big 351 motor with Morrison 8 throttle body injection With 8 ls1 coils We ran a 12 tooth reluctor on Front of motor because we can with a Haltech And an au style single pulse cam sensor which runs of the dizzy This was because we had to have a small cam sensor to fit under the manifold And to get a good right angle drive setup for a dizzy with leads would have been Priced in the 3 to 5 thousand depending if we wanted cheap or good quality |
