Default front brake calipers

Quick question,
Has anyone considered using the 4 pot brake calipers off a 75 series or later landcruiser ? Have had several thru the shop in the last couple of weeks and I thought Hmm "they is one big arse caliper and rotor assy ! " Wonder if I could adapt them to the toy.
Thoughts please

Fairly common on older style cars (non Cobras) converted to track cars I think. But aren't they REALLY heavy? A bit like the old volvo 4 pots?

You know I thought the same thing when I was looking at the missus PRADO, they dont look too heavy?? And they have to stop a big weight over 2400 Kgs. Cheers Gregg

Yep, I too have looked at them, but at the end of the day I dont think they are any lighter than a Jag caliper.

Dave, I'm not using a Jag front end, so that weight difference whilst not immaterial -doesn't come into it at this stage. They are designed to stop a
Cruiser and you would think that they would do the job. They would/could be a stop gap till I can afford some 6 pot alloy ones. You can also get a large variety of pad combo's for them too-which to be fair is a consideration.
$300 odd $'s on EBay for new ones is good value I think.
I'm very open to suggestions on this ( well mostly anyway LOL)

I have heard of some people using them, and there are a very large range of pads available, I normally fit "Mine spec" pads to vehicles out here.

Me personally, if you have no calipers at all right now, save the money and buy the lighter ones, nothing helps handling better than less unsprung weight, even Commonwhore alloy ones are designed for a car much heavier than a Cobra.

I went with AP Racing, 6-pots were around $750 each, $500 each for the 4-pots on the rear. These were new prices direct from the UK. I figure I'll only be buying them once.

Guys, is the size of caliper really an issue? Our cars weigh nearly half of most the cars that doner parts are sourced from so i would have thought 6 piston is just overkill?

Interested in any driving comparisons. I have the jag front and rear on mine and if i was to change anything it would be to find something similar size with less weight because they are very heavy.

I went big for two reasons;

1) the CR is setup with dual-masters and balance bar, and no booster, so pedal effort will be increased as compared to an OE donor style with booster
2) brakes are like horsepower, not possible to have too much

of course mine hasn't driven yet, so don't really know what it will be like!
