Ahh Chris - now I can see it. New page posts sometimes do that I've noticed. All good now - ignore my earlier post this page

And you cannot delete a post. It may not be your internet causing that - sometimes this site just goes real slow and the result seems to be double posts.

Hi Brad,

I'm getting close to trimming the dashboard on mine now. I remember liking what you had done on yours when I saw it at the Nationals. Can you tell me what you used? Amount of padding, type/grade of leather, etc?

Cheers,

Richard

CSX2011 is a factory competition Shelby that is going to auction in a few months time. While it will be worth insane money, please don't copy it's dashboard appearance...

Default Dash

Hi Richard

Its been a while since Craig organised the dash covering but as I recall the dash arrived from the upholsterer to the Pace factory already finished.

Contact Craig Or Warren at Pace and I am sure that they will put you on the right track.

Cheers

Brad

Richard, we have fibreglass dash edge mouldings that we can supply for you to pad and trim. The do look good finished. We just hadn't got around to offering them as an official option. Just drop us an email and I can chase up pricing for you.

Colour choice including whether the car will be a solid or metallic will determine the cost of materials, as would the inclusion of painted-on stripes. But for all intents and purposes, using high quality materials such as PPG or Glasurit, there's anywhere between $2000-3500 in materials alone.

Most quality bodyshops (including mine) charge between $100-120 per hour which we believe is fair and reasonable given the cost of a skilled and experienced trades person can easily eclipse $70 per hour alone. Then you factor in overheads, depreciation and g-d forbid the shop makes a little profit inside that hourly rate, too.

Even on a nicely constructed Pace body, there'd still be anywhere between 40-70 hours labour in the job, which factors disassembly, cleaning/decontamination, initial prep/sanding, fixing of any lows and discrepancies (yes, they do exist on the body to certain extents depending on when it was manufactured), masking, priming, block and hand sanding the car in a minimum of 3 different grits (incl. wet sanding), cleaning/decontamination, masking, surfacing/sealing, painting/baking, denibbing/polishing and reassembly. So there's $4000-7000 on average in labour.

Flowcoating additional clearcoat following the original application of clearcoat would be considered an extra-cost addition.

Add GST and as you can see, painting of a Pace would typically cost between $6,600 to $11K. There will obviously be some variation in that, but I'd say Guy was pretty much on the money with the job on average typically costing between $7-8K. That would be for a high quality result in metallic which would include painted-on full length stripes. Number rondelles and/or rookie stripes would be an extra cost option.

Hope this helps to clarify people's understanding/expectations of what it costs to paint the car.

Cheers,
Sime
Interesting read there Sime.
I think you are on the money as well, I am getting quotes of between 15 and 18 grand to paint my FIA.
I, for the life of me cannot find the justification in those prices.
10k should stop it I reckon.

What am I missing here.
Cheers

I suspect it might be because typically, other replica Cobra's need around 40-100 hours of bodywork and multiple rounds of priming and blocking. Shops know this and need to estimate accordingly.

Although the Pace body is really good, it still needs bodywork before paint but there's nowhere near the hours in it compared to others.

Why don't you bring her down to Mexico and I can paint her for you BJ?
