Default Ford Cleveland thermostat

Just a bit of useless trivia I thought I would share.

Went in to SC Auto, Autobarn, Repco and Bursons today looking for a Cleveland thermostat.
Every one of them tried to sell me a Windsor thermostat saying that it was a Cleveland one.

Bursons was the only one that persisted and brought up a picture and part number for the correct item (which they will get in for me tomorrow).

BTW: the clevos have a little top hat shape on the end that controls the heater bypass flow (important if you are running Gas) otherwise they look the same.

Definately not useless information if your running a 351 Cleveland Ford motor. Both styles thermostats will fit in the cleveland, but only the Cleveland (with its hood on the bottom) will work properly. I had the same experience , getting the parts guy educated.
Good stuff, Bill

That's interesting Jason, I have a 4v cleavland in my ski boat and have had issues with temperature.
I am planning on pulling it apart and giving it a birthday soon so I will be having a good look at what thermostat is in there.

When you check it out, make sure the press-in brass restrictor is installed in the bore below the thermostat. Without it the bypass block-off doesn't work.

Hi Gav,

There is a high flow version as well. Around double the price $30-$35 I think by memory
