I believe they are disc brake spindles as the standard solid rotors were amongst the parts that came with the car.
I dont know why the HX style would be better as you are restricted with the diameter of the rotor. You would be losing out on the mechanical advantage of the bigger rotor.
As per previous post I spoke to Howard at race brakes and went on his advise and experience also. Very knowledgeable man with brakes.
