Sambo - youre on the money. We will redo the A Arms ourselves.

Mark Crespan just rang me and he was very helpful. Mongrel is a 302 and hes got top quality parts which is obviously part of the reason he is so quick. It's great that most people are prepared to help others when asked. Its also interesting to hear others thoughts behind why they built their car in that manner and for what purpose. Mark obviously enjoys the challenge of hill climbing as well as circuit racing. It sounds like an awesome piece of machinery and he has my respect.
check out this photo of him airborne.

Mark didn't turn up at Warwick as the new horse broke the old diff. New one is pretty tasty.
Ive driven Marks Cobra several times and its a very well developed piece of kit.
Its not supercharged or a NASCAR engine like some are dribbling about , but a very well bred 4999 cc Alloy small block and heads and an awesome gearbox setup. Nothing could get near it at the 4th July day at the Lake last weekend. Mark was at McLean's Bridge and ran against the BDM Car and left it choking on fumes.
I race at all the Qld tracks and also crew for Mark fairly regularly , i don't see many of u guys out there at many of the 26 events we do each season !!!!. LOL

Is that you Grant, you stirrer?!? I don't think anyone would disagree that Mark's car is a well sorted car with some hardcore bits all over it. I'm like others who would be interested to see how it compares to other Cobras that run some pretty good times up at QR and Morgan Park.

You know that my car was good in a straight line and had a bit of power, but I didn't have the suspension design, parts, set-up or talent to compete with other Cobras at full length racetracks. As such, I'm just interested to see how Mark's car would compare to one or two regularly driven fast street Cobras at QR.

Do you still have that monster turbocharged Falconer Chev?

Last time I tried to register at the events mark enjoys doing like mt cootha 2008 or 09 cant remember, I was told my car didnt reflect what a 1965 ac cobra should look like. Then I see marks fluro green thing flying around. He must have an in with the chitty chitty bang bang historic guys.

Bdm guys were eating fumes? Wow it must be quick.

Most of the local guys do the A series, muscle car. Cobra nats and time attack. Maybe u could do 27?

Like I keep saying more the merrier.

Spookypt

I wonder which BDM car it left choking on its fumes?
Was it the one that weighs 1200kg, has 570 rwhp and a sequential Hollinger..... or the one that weighs 900kg, has 460 rwhp and a regular 6 speed.......
Or was it the registered blue/white BDM that has a standard LS1 under the hood....
Considering it's an RMC and weighs in the vicinity of 1300kg.... then it must have about 700hp if it smoked one of the black ones....... Quite a stout 302 indeed! Considering the same size V8 supercar engines make 650hp then this must be a piece of work.
I wonder if it has ever done any racing longer than a hill climb? Maybe there would be some lap times registered somewhere...
Just had a look at some Hill Climb results and he runs around the same time as a mate of mine, Scott Trenoweth in a series 2 Rx7...... that would not make it the fastest Cobra in QLD......
Anyways, I hope he brings it out to play with the others some day.

Hey Craig, Couldn't help it , there is so much dribble posted on these sites.
If some one doesn't know the facts they just make it up !. At least some one got close with the comment about a Supercar engine ,thing is a real good combo now , enough said.
The Cobbie was never Green , had a green radiator mouth at one point. Never was Supercharged and anint a Nascar engine just good old Aussie beef.
Marks Cob at Bathurst was some thing to see and hear coming up the mountain!!!. Old Toyo Gear-sack let it down on that occasion , problem solved now. Pretty stout jigger for a street driven toy.
We shared the drive at Oakey and M ran 6 th and I ran 7 th outright against all the single seaters etc.
Yes still got the 1000 or so neds locked up in the V6 , maybe i should line the shop Ute up with a few of u boys. Draught horses not Shetlands.
Ive got a 4 cyl jigger that does 53 s at the Lake and 9s on the 1/4
Drag racers don't have a lot of imagination either corners arn't in the plan. Thats what i love about road racing , brakes , suspension , aerodynamics and the power comes last .
Power cruise should be a blast this time around !. Maybe we can see a few more Cobbies there .
Any way back to the real world , there's work to do. Have a good day.[ love a good stir ].xxx

Whatever happened to Gary Walthers weapon, who bought it, does it still race.

tomcat racing 07-11-2013 05:55 PM

I suppose the emphasis should be on the word black, not the word fastest in this thread.

spookypt 07-11-2013 06:05 PM

My apologies Grant.. It had a fluro green mouth and had a light "pink" body from memory.

Tom, Gary's car was bought by Brett Hughes. No it's not racing yet afaik.

Hey Tom how's it going?

Gary's car was bought by Brett Hughes, a former Club Member. He lives at Warwick now and has plans ?? to do sprint events etc with it. Would really love to see that car raced again, just blew all the other Cobras out of the water when he came to the Nationals a few years ago. Raced it in production sports a few years ago and smashed a heap of National records... sadly his health stopped him from continuing and he had to sell it.

tomcat racing 07-11-2013 07:21 PM

Thanks Towy,

Im all good, going around the world for 3 months soon, wont be at the nationals this year.

It's coming together now Tommy, it will be a lazier combo than the taxi motor.
I am fitting taller rear gearing to give it more legs, but it should have plenty of snot off the line I would think :)
