Default Russell EFI push-on fitting – safety risk?

I have been advised by a chap fitting a 6 cyl BMW to his 240Z of concerns raised about earlier Russell push-on EFI fittings and that Russell now use a fitting that has an extra screw retaining cap.

I don’t know if this has been raised before but I think it’s something LSx/Russell users should be aware of and make their own judgments.

I purchased an earlier unit some time ago and found it was very hard to push on and I was never really sure that it had ‘clicked’ into place… perhaps that is causing the issues (i.e. not properly installed) rather than the design itself.

I just bought one of the new screw on ones for the Supercar... Thankfully it seems they are better than the older push on ones.

I used the newer style also. I have them on all my fuel and emissions lines. When I was researching I found the same thing so made sure i got the new ones. There are still places selling the old style.

Peter thank you very much for posting this. I have been researching these fittings for the last two weeks and was about to buy one (older one) as I had never heard of this problem!

That said, isn't the OE fitment a similar design with a plastic/nylon clip?

i think this guys problem isnt the russel fuel line fittings but the fitment of a bmw enigne to a nissan thats more crazy to me hehehehe
bmw dont really make good engines heheheh

the gm engines normally use a steel fitting and they have 4 metal tags on the inside which lock onto the pipe once the fitting is pushed on
these fitting require special tools to remove them
where the one in the picture above is removed with pliers or fingers

but on the commodore rear end fuel lines and filters they do use a similar type of push on fitting but u cannot remove them with fingers but rather need long nose pliers and even then they are very hard to get off

u also have to be careful these days not to run too much rubber fuel line as they say the crap e10 fuel eats into rubber

i think the fuels these days have so much crap in them we dont know what damage they r doing but i have heard some cars catching alight due to rubber fuel lines being eaten away after awhile

I think it's more a matter of quality difference from different manufacturers - I'm reusing my OE fittings. See post #107

I'm using the OE rail fitting as well - if it ain't broke don't play with it.

Sideshow - You will appreciate this. This chap has even gone to the trouble of building his own engine test stand so he can work out the wiring of the ECU, etc. Here is his build thread.

cool they look like a big motor
ive done one or two zeds with 2js in them
much more power than a bmw motor and probably more reliable
I guess that's y I stay away from euro crap hehehe

ive had some of those aftermarket push on fittings and the clearish locking clips are easy to squeeze with your fingers to remove

the genuine holden ones are a pain to remove and half the time if u don't have correct tool to squeeze em together u can stuff them abit
