Default My scale Cobra build

Hey all.
You may remember a month or 2 back I was looking for a decent 1:18 scale Cobra model to have built up.
Well Scott has started work on my car.
Firstly here are some pics of some Valiants he has done in the past.

The brief I gave him for the build up was that I wanted a model, painted up like my car, competed in a long gruiling race (LeMans or Sebring type event), the car finished the race but was well out of the podium, so a little unloved, has been dragged home and unloaded and pushed into the back corner of workshop.
Unwashed since competing, fuel stains and road grime, maybe a rub from another car or against the armco barrier.
As a starting point Scott purchased a Kyosho racing version of the 427 Cobra.

He strips it down to bare metal when doing a color change.

He has since now also painted the base color for the model.

As more updates come through I will add them here to follow the build up.

I must have miss understood Scott, I thought he left the car to sit for now, but no. He has started on the ageing and damage.
I think after that is done he lets it sit.
Here are some pics he sent me last night.

He has some decals on order and they should be with him this week.

Hey Dave,
Fantastic detail but I agree with Gav, your gunna have to leave it out in the backyard for a month baking under Alice's sun to get it to look like the original.

WOW awesome work

Hey do you think he could do the same with a GT40 model? I got a diecast one at home in the boring old Gulf colours ,would love to do the same thing as you and have it painted the same colour as my 40 (Highland Green) then bashed and dumped......

Cheers

Dave, I know it's not cool and sometimes downright rude to ask what things cost.........

...so what's the ballpark price for his work?

It must take hours and hours to get to that level of detail!

I'd call that more than just "unloved". It was "raced hard and put up wet!" Sure isn't difficult to imagine it in full size. Great work! WEK.

Sorry Box but there always has to be a dissenter.

Basically I think Scott's work technically so far is excellent, but I wonder if he's being influenced a little by your latest motor racing interest involving lots of dirt and dust.

The cars you see after an endurance event like Le Mans for example certainly have evidence of paint swapping or Armco contact and there's more often than not streaks of road and oil grime to be seen, but there's no dirt or mud or rust. I may be wrong but I thought a post-Sebring or Daytona or Le Mans appearance was more the look you were after. Not to be picky but to me, your car is shaping up more in the style of a Baja Rally competitor or something from the old Redex Trial days.

Maybe I'm jumping in too early as the car is obviously still a work in progress, but I still reckon you might need to firm up with Scott your ideas for how the completed article should look.

Albany (Dave), I will PM you contact details for Scott, or if you are on Facebook, his page is called https://www.facebook.com/CustomWrecks

Hi Craig, Asking the price is not a problem for me, the model delivered to me is $385 (he supplied the model) I was suprised at the price, I was thinking closer to $500

I hear ya Don, but I reckon he has got it pretty close.
I had pictures of my Cobra after towing back from ShelbyFest 2013, it was dirtier after driving through rain.

Here is another picture after adding race number and screen etc.

Yes the coupe is for sale, I think he is going to be running a "silent Auction" with all monies going to a charity for Cancer research.

Smile

a few years ago I attended a car show and saw this old Ford. I took a few pics and walked on. Later I came back and took more pics. Then I noticed on the name card that the car was fiberglass, not rusty steel. I took more pics.

I think this paint job may cost as much as some of the cars at the show.
