Ok so after being stuffed around by customs for nearly 2 weeks my computer finally arrived.

I decided to replace the computer because the other computer that I had I could get the car to run after changing parameters in the tune but had issues with Ambient air temp not reading etc etc and leds on the computer not flashing like they suppose to and generally the tune that I had running in it it probably shouldn't have started.

Plugged it in programmed it and all systems work as they are suppose to this time all lights on the computer are doing what they are suppose to temp sensors are reading woo hoo, ok so time to start and NO GO argggggghhhhhh. even with the tune I had it running on before it wont start.

Really starting to hate this FAST EFI. I think I will pull the whole lot out and start again from scratch.

Anybody else had one of these FAST systems.

Damage,

I am running FAST on my 482 Shelby FE Aluminum motor.
When it came into the country , tune was way off.
Got onto Keith Craft the engine builder, he sent me some info , plugged it in and changed the oxy sensor and all good.

Not a problem since.

Maybe get onto the engine builder ?

Good luck !

Soul.

Just for ****s and giggles can I get you to email the tune your running, I have a tune off the USA off a dyno run on a cammer exact same spec as mine but I would appreciate an aus tune just to see. Would save me throwing hammers or anything else hard at the car

Got a couple of hours spare to work on the car this week over lunch thought I'd post the progress pics.

Started on the side intrusion bars had to go and get some nice stainless steel for the job. Stripped the carpet off the door the other day so then started working out how I could come up with something less cumbersome then the original idea that was suppose to go into the doors.

This is the door all stripped out.

http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...0/image171.jpg

Then I started to machine the bar I decided I would weld the bar to the door frame as it will make a neater job then welding a heap of plates to the bar and bolting it in so I started out with machining one end of the stainless on my mill so I got everything nice and neat and square.

http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...0/image174.jpg

After I machined that end it was simply a matter of getting the length right and using a port grinder to match it all in to the

http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...0/image173.jpg

This it all machined up and a check fit before final clean up and the to weld it in place.

http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...0/image176.jpg

This is the finished job it actually looks good in the raw but I still think I'll upholster it an fit some map pocket to make it look a bit neater.

http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...0/image178.jpg

I also got the time to fit the door catch lugs, I used stainless again for these had a sheet metal guy around the corner bend them up and the machined the lugs to fit and bolted the plates to original Kirkham door catch mounts. These came out pretty neat not sure if I'll leave them as is or make some covers.

http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...0/image170.jpg

I also finished up my dash board while I had a bit of time so fitted off all the brake warning and seat belt lights. Dash looks awesome everything nice and neat.

I have a heap more photos of other work I've done so I'll post the latter.

Looking good.

Is the one bar going to be enough for engineering? I've got 2 bars that size in my doors.

Cheers

d488y2 03-20-2014 04:53 PM

The dash looks great, clean and simple. How did you go with the Cats for the exhaust?

damage 03-21-2014 04:31 AM

Aussie mike, the engineer said that was fine due to the frame for the door as well as the car itself .

D4 haven't got to the cats yets received the computer haven't got it running properly yet. It now starts, idles revs but I've got a heap of tuning yet.

Quiz question for you guys with aftermarket EFI systems.

What are you using for an ignition switch (brand type etc).

I had one of those Lucas style key switches in the car as part of the delivery from Kirkham but this switch has a momentary interuption of power to the ECU on cranking which is playing havoc with getting the engine started because the ECU stop starts.

I need a switch that guarantees a continuous supply to the ECU when switching from run to cranking, or would it just be easier to run a start button with isolated relay supply.

xb-60 03-24-2014 03:31 AM

What about keeping the ignition key and adding a start button?
Cheers,
Glen

renovationinnov 03-24-2014 05:33 AM

how about a hella ignition switch or a marine one ,,,you might have one somewhere

Zedn 03-24-2014 09:50 PM

I used this.

Start Savage Replacment Push Button Switch | eBay

750hp 03-25-2014 02:07 AM

There are numerous Kirkhams with EFI fitted, so it would be surprising if everyone didn't have the same issue.
Not as a recommendation, but my M800 Motec Cobra had an elcheapo waterproof momentary push button like this - Large Waterproof Pushbutton Momentary SPST Switch- Jaycar Electronics
It worked perfectly and cost less than a cup of coffee!

damage 03-25-2014 03:03 AM

Yeh I'm thinking push button will be the easiest option, the FAST XFI just doesn't like the momentary interruption to power as you flick to start position. Apparently they don't have that many fitted with the XFI and they have had some similarities with some of their cars.

Modena 04-01-2014 05:52 PM

Just one thing to remember, the Lucas switch (like every other ignition switch that I have seen) will remove power to the ACC circuit while the key is held in the start position. This is to switch off all accessories during cranking to provide maximum amperage to the starter.

If you simply wire in a start button then you lose this feature. Not saying it will cause a problem, but something to be aware of.

Thought I should get around to posting the rest of the pics I promised from my last post.

Doors are all finished with the fabrication of the intrusion bar and the compliant door latches.

Once the door cards get fitted it will look a lot neater with the strike plates I'm going to make some covers for them just to finish it all off.

I actually got some time to work on the car tonight, the minister for war and finance had one of those Sheila's makeup parties so I was told to make myself scarce.

All boys were ordered away from the house so I commandeered some help.

http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...0/image188.jpg

Started by tidying up under the dash I had to pull all the wiring down again when I installed the new computer so it gave me a chance to neaten it up a bit more,I fitted plugs to all the wiring so the dash is quick to pull out of the car again if ever the

http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...0/image190.jpg

Then I finished off the dash with its plugs and bundled everything up as well.

http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...0/image192.jpg

http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...0/image194.jpg

All the wiring is now finished, side indicators, third brake light, dash warning lights brake warning seat belt warning and hand brake warning etc

Then I bolted my headrest on the seats I've kept with the stainless theme and used 316 Allen heads

http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...0/image187.jpg

Seeing how the under dash wiring is finished I also decided to bolt the seats into the car

http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...0/image189.jpg

http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...0/image191.jpg

I've been looking around for an overflow tank for my radiator, hadn't found anything that would fit nice but got a nice polished one a couple of weeks ago now just have to fit it.

http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...0/image195.jpg

So basically all that is left now is to finish upholstery tuning and exhaust.

Donunder 04-10-2014 12:37 AM

Getting close now D.

This is one car I really want to see up and running!
