great to hear damage
but as said before ..now for the engine rob |
Well done mate :) |
Well done - you've certainly set the bar for build-spec, and to get it through engineering and rego is a great achievement.
|
Woohooo.....welldone Mate. Great feeling when all the rego bs out of the way.....
Paves the way for many others.....awesome mate |
more bad news.
Well I'm starting to get my engine all organised to go back to together and am organizing all my parts etc so that it can get bolted together and back on the road.
Thanks to Keith Craft for next to NO ASSISTANCE. So much for using a reputable engine builder with a written warranty. I decided given some of the issues that I have had with this Cammer that I would have everything crack tested and replace everything new because I wasn't happy with what I saw when the engine came apart. My crank and rods and all rocker gear tested fine. I'm replacing all of the pistons because I don't want to risk any potential failures with gudgeon stress from valves hitting piston heads. Big day of disappointment yesterday when the crack test of my heads revealed they are nothing but POS. http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...m/IMG_0182.jpg http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...m/IMG_0183.jpg http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d.../IMG_01842.jpg http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...0/IMG_0186.jpg http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d.../IMG_01881.jpg http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...0/IMG_0187.jpg Thinking the Coyote might be cheaper then fixing this  |
Offering this as an reliable option..... and for sh!t and giggles.
VF GTS HSV HOLDEN 6.2 LITRE SUPERCHARGED LSA V8 ENGINE (Comes with manual twin plate clutch) In all honestly, all the best getting that cammer back to life and running again. |
man those heads look like there made by procomp its disappointing the engine builder wont stand by his work tho . that's why I only use 1 bloke to do my machine work and then I use his engine room to assemble all my own stuff less heart ache that way .

red die shows porosity and cracks over the white die base

who's heads are they, Coons?
|
Yes Coon heads machined by Keith Craft and supplied as part of a full engine package that broke a timing chain and destroyed itself after 40 miles.
As per the other guys said the dye stains show the porosity and cracks in the darker areas. I have a response from Keith Craft that says in essence (my words reading between their lines) yes we are aware they are crap but we sold them too you anyway. |
Had a very similar problem with my dads range rover 4.6 V8 block when it was new, it was so porous that oil was leaking from the block, needless to say land rover replaced the whole engine free of charge, just a bad batch of block casting apparently.

Damage, I had a devious and cunning dream a few months ago. As my ambitions are loftier than my bank balance, I had this genius thought that you would try to go through the process to get your car engineered with the cammer and find it all too hard. With that, my perfect plan was for you to get so sick of the whole thing that you'd buy a Coyote engine and sell the cammer (to me!) for a small fraction of it's true value. :)
With the agro and carnage and outlay that you're now faced with, I'm glad this plan didn't somehow eventuate..! In all seriousness though, it's a really difficult decision in front of you. Depending on who you talk to, Genesis, Coon and Pond have all had their share of porosity/casting issues. If you haven't contacted Jay Brown or Barry Rabotnik, I'd be interested to hear what they have to say. Good luck with it. I'm looking forward to seeing the car come together again soon. |
You better come around when I'm bolting this thing back together Craig and make sure I'm putting your engine together properly.
lol |
Excellent! Make sure to remove all of that dye for me - it looks like a CSI crime scene!
