Default Header paint

Just wondering if anyone has had experience with a halfway decent header paint? Have used VHT header paint on an old car of mine before, but found that the colour burned off in about a week. Not a problem if you want black headers I guess, but I was hoping for a silver/grey

Don't want to have them coated, as they are a 'just till I can run sidepipes' set.

Any thoughts welcomed TY

I built my headers so they will work with both side pipes and under car exhaust. Then had them coated nice and shiny.

I heard the vht was ok if you use the right one. The thing I didn't like was it is only matt. There is a guy at Penrith who does ceramic coating on small scale with reasonable prices. I spoke to him about mine but he couldn't do chrome look. He can do metallic silver and was a really nice helpful guy. Worth a call as it might only be an extra 100 over what you will pay for paint cans.

I heard the trick was to cure the VHT paint slowly onto the headers in your kitchen oven. May be hazardous to your marriage though.

The oven, you say... hmm

So if I tell the missus i'm making a special dinner and she should stay out the kitchen for a few hours, I should get away with the horrible smell

I used silver VHT from Bunnings and it's still going strong 2 years later.
The only problem was when the Karcher got a little close and stripped off about an inch wide section. Needed to mask it off and re-apply. Now just need to be careful when doing any under-bonnet cleaning!

I had a set of headers powder coated in high temp powder some years ago. It was pretty cheap compared to ceramic or any type of coating like that. Held up great! Had exhaust manifolds done the same way. No problems.

How does high temp powder coat work?
If it holds up to exhaust temps then it must require near the temperature of the surface of the sun to be baked on!!
Sure it wasn't spray metal or something like that?

I slow leaking power steering pump that gunked up the front of the block. Seemed the easiest way to clean it all off...

Not sure, but it was powder coat. You can buy it from Eastwood.

It's good stuff..

I've had the headers done on the Windsors, and also the LS7.

Default Header coating

My headers were originally Jet Hot coated but it burnt off so I painted them with VHT paint silver. they look like flat aluminium and have never discoloured or burnt off.
Cheers,
Bryan

After having my pipes ceramic coated a few times previously at great expense, I decided to use high temp paint.

I used KBS Coating Extreme exhaust paint on my GT40 headers. Even after full noise runs (on a race track) it hasn't moved or discoloured.

I blasted the pipes before brush painting the coating on and I think they came out great for a $60.00 investment.
