Interesting read

For that Cammer I can always send you a South Africa registered Shamrock Chassis.
I am sure there are ways to build a Kirkham around a solid Shamrock - ;-)

And the chassis is RHD!

Honestly, good luck! My mate in Perth was busy for a while with GT40s from SA into Oz.
I am afraid he gave up...

I would love to hear that you make it. Registration across the world, mainly in Europe was my business.

Anyone thats interested David Kirkham has uploaded a heap of photos onto the Kirkham face book page of 3 of the new Kirkhams that are Australia bound.

Kirkhams provide comprehensive photography of all their builds (by request) which is great when your on the other side of the world. I found them awesome to deal with right through the whole process.

Damage ,

Are you getting any closer to rego?

Soul.

Towmaster 02-24-2014 10:16 PM

Have there been ANY Kirkhams that have passed full registration in Australia yet?
I'm not talking club rego etc but full rego.

soulman 02-24-2014 10:49 PM

Mine !:)

Soul.

Wazza 02-24-2014 11:39 PM

Hey Soul..
Did yours make it through that "loophole" that existed a few years ago...
Registered as a 1965 Cobra ??
Or is there not any probs with getting them registered through the usual channels?

You might be the only registered one so far I'm guessing.

Cheers,
Warren.

Slowly but surely my qld transport build application is submitted so I've got a couple of weeks to wait before vin number etc.

Car has been to the suspension shop and is all set on that front.

Off to the exhaust shop this week or first up next week.

Still got a couple of small jobs to finish off but been looking around for parts that fit the build.

Wazza the engineer I'm using hasn't highlighted anything as an issue yet and he's crawled all over the car. Only early days in my process so I guess I'll find out.

damage 02-25-2014 02:47 AM

On another note it's good to see that Kirkham are making their cars with all the extra electrical circuits in their harness right from the factory.

Certainly makes it easier when your completing the build to not have to pull the harness back out just to add a couple of wires.

Kirkham don't seem to have any issues going the extra mile to help out and even better don't charge the world.

Dimis 02-25-2014 02:48 AM

There's at least one other that I know of ;)

Getting them registered is not impossible.
Challenging? Yes! Impossible? No!
It's a cobra like any other...
Just follow the rules like you would with any ICV.

Just because the badge says Kirkham doesn't make it some sort of a mythical beast which means it's treated differently. Just sayin'

You know , one of those lost Shelby/Kirkham chassis from the sixties!

Soul.

Wazza 02-25-2014 07:32 PM

Good that you've taken such good care of that 49 year old car....it looks as good as new !!

I know of a few of those 'genuine 1965 Cobras', there must be at least double the number of them that were actually produced :D

So there has not been one registered yet using the proper current ICV guidelines?

Lexluther 02-25-2014 10:32 PM

I am working on getting my full rego. got my VIN yesterday:3DSMILE:
And 44 points on the statement of requirement to comply with:eek:
Seems fairly basic stuff and the engineer is not concerned about anything (yet!)

Tonus72 02-26-2014 12:52 AM

Hi Lex

What does the 'statement of requirements' mean?

Down here we need to apply for permission to build an ICV. you then get an approval, with I imagine a list of requirements. You then have 2 years to meet those requirements.

If you do not complete the car in 2 years you go back for an extension and the requirements may change.

Is this what you are talking about there?

Cheers

Tony

Hi Tonus
You got it!
I applied for permission to build an ICV through my engineer, give as many specifications as I could, track, tyre sizes, engine specifications, gearbox specifications steering rack etc. based on that they give you permission to build they also issue a statement of requirements, listing ADRs you have to comply with, and basic safety requirement like no sharp protrusions that can cause injury, appropriate tyre ratings, NO exhaust outlet shall exit on the left hand side...(so no side pipes!) the list is long but I think very achievable
Strangely there is no time limit stated in the documents. Maybe that's a given..

Cheers

damage 02-26-2014 04:37 AM

Lex, obviously different engineers have different opinions about what ADRs are still in operation because my engineer said that ADR about side pipes doesn't exist anymore, he did however say that QLD transport may have state specific vehicle safety standards that they may call up.

I asked the question how they could do that when there are certain production vehicles that are imported into Australia that have side exhausts and gave him the model numbers so that he could take it up if he needed.

Lexluther 02-26-2014 05:12 AM

Hi Damage
It wasn't my engineers opinion it is part of the statement of requirements that came from dep. of transport. I guess anything can be challenged if there is precedence but I am not sure I want to stir the pot, the side pipes would still have to comply with noise and emission tests, you also will have to shield from where the pipes exit the body to the exhaust tip, to "reduce risk of injury" anyhow I have an appointment next week with engineer so I will see how we go ......I really do want side pipes

damage 02-26-2014 05:53 AM

It's not stirring the pot if the adr doesn't exist. Pretty harmless to ask why manufacturers can have exhausts exit left side but you can't.

damage 02-26-2014 05:55 AM

BTW how about some build pics while your laying around:LOL::3DSMILE:
