The long time waiting and making of the crank has arrived and the engine is getting dummied up for final assembly.

Great choices in your pieces there LJ. Congrats on the crank — it is a thing of beauty.
Now the fun begins. All the best. Ed |
This vid popped up in my YouTube feed the other day and I thought of you with your custom crank.
How cool is this CNC machine turning out a crank from a piece of billet. As an amateur machinist one of the things that amazes me is the size of the cuts this thing takes. It must have some serious power behind it. Cheers |

Cheers Russell |
What amazes me is the precision to make that machine to make that precision crank.
|
Yeah, but what about the machine that built the machine to build that machine that built that precision crank. Now that's amazing!
|
Holt cr@p that thing has got some horsepower behind it! Makes that steel look like soft butter.

I visit a company called Sumitomo crankshaft. They manufacture the cranks for the V-10 Viper, most high performance LS cranks, and cranks for the oil industry. You should see them machining a crank for a mud pump used in the oil fields. The raw stock is 4330 and is 18" in diameter and 6-8 feet long. The material coming off that is amazing. They use a machine called a GFM and depending on size, they can have a 35" disk mill that cuts the throws all in one shot. It is amazing watching the metal being removed. I also visit Callies and Norton Crank. Lots of crank manufacturing in Ohio.

Now I know what to give you for Christmas Mike !
Impressive bit of gear. Cheers. |
The Cammer is in final long block assembly not long now. Looking forward to the sweet sound of high revs.

Wow, it's been a marathon to get to this point! Please take some video if you're running it on a chassis dyno.

LJ can ask about the fly by wire set up you are using with your 8 Stack? a set up like that would go well in my GT40.

Long road LJ. Those were some monumental battles you fought to get here.
