Default Left turn at red light in Brisbane - trial is on now

I didn't know this was happening, but I hope the council receives a lot of positive feedback so they roll it out to many more intersections. About time!

Welcome to backward QLD now how long ago did they introduce uniform traffic rules across Australia so that demerit points could be taken regardless of what state you were in, wonder how long before we can make a u turn at traffic lights without a sign.

Baby steps ... Let's hope the trial is successful and other intersections can be opened up too. Nothing irks me more than to have to sit at a red light at night when both roads are clear of traffic.

Although we drive on the opposite side of the road in the US. Most states permit the equivalent, IE turning RT from RH lane on a red light unless posted otherwise. Keep you eyes open.

Talking tow truck time

Hmmm, was thinking of starting a new business.
Now might be the time to set a tow truck/tilt tray business and park opposite all those intersections.
I can see it now Bang Gang Towing (specialising in turn left WITHOUT Care incidents)-group rates for all Bris-vegan idiots !

We've got some here in NSW. So far I've seen no problem, but I am conscious that cars approaching from a distance on either side might think I'm running a red.

I'm old enough to remember when this started here in the colonies. Heck, I'm old enough to remember the big flood and that boat thing. Anyway, starting at a few designated intersections with a plethora of signage and public service announcements about the change is a good rational approach. There may be a couple of teething problems but very few and the advantages well outweigh the problems. It will probably be viewed as a novelty at first but once people are used to it I think you'll see a ground swell of support for it. We've even advanced to left turn on red in some isolated special circumstances areas (most prevalent with one way street grids).

So true.

For this reason, will there be signage for the other motorists who are approaching from another direction?
