Modena's dash mock-up
I haven't had a whole lot of time in the past few months to work on the Cobra, but I have been slowly getting wiring etc together. I have an aluminium dash panel and mocked it up with print-outs of gauges which worked well;
but I took the time to mock it up with the real gauges and switches et al on a piece of 3mm MDF, to make sure I was happy with placement before cutting holes in the aluminium;
I know my electronic gauges will piss of the purists, just as well it's my car.

Tony, the two large ones are speedo and tacho. The far right will be fuel level. The smaller one in the centerline of the steering wheel is a multi-function which has all individual warning lights which don't have their own gauge (indicators, seat-belt, brake-fail, etc). All my VEI gauges are the blue variety;

Gregg, the silver button is the illuminated hazard switch, dim when off, flashes bright when on
Craig, yes the key position is fine. Hidden behind the dash panel is also the steering lock key barrel, which is just for the steering lock.
Guye, the button for track select and volume for the bluetooth streaming audio is also going on there, just waiting for the kit to be delivered. No, I'm not joking. The mic will go wherever makes sense, probably somewhere near the left knee position, but I'm not really fussed about mic, the kit is more for streaming audio from my phone. I am not having a head-unit radio, just the blutooth streaming to a stand-alone amp powering the speakers.

Ben I reckon I look at my fuel gauge once before I set off for a drive and that's pretty much it.
On the other hand I'm constantly checking my oil pressure .....

I have a red boost gauge of the same type in my daily driver, and with sun on it through sun-roof it is ok. Whether it is ok in the blazing Melbourne summer sun in a car with no roof, remains to be seen.

Gauges
Hi Ben,
My engineer made me move some of the gauges to make the
important one's easier to view from the drivers seat.
So maybe ask the engineer before you commit to a perminent install.

I see what you did there... very funny!
Looking good!
I'm liking the electric blue interior lights... Should match nicely with a blue paint job... No sure why, but I'm convinced you'll be painting it blue.

Looking good,
Something for you to think about! I made a mock up one out of plywood and did what you did and thought I had it pretty good. Then I drove it.
Made another dash with the gauges in different positions before getting them where I wanted.
If you can drive it for a while with the timber dash and check the positioning before drilling out the aluminium one, could save a dash.
Cheers
Ross

Wild looking setup Ben! I just had a look at their website and see reference to upper and lower settable alarms. Is there the option for the gauge to change colour, or is the alarm always as a written indication (hi, lo, fail) ? Products - VEI Systems
These gauges on a black dash would look very stealthy when the car is parked, but will light up like a space ship when you switch the key on! Can you control/dim the brightness?

Just one query... Do you have shares in anti-seize?
How else do you explain the product placement in the steering wheel cut out?
