With the offset it would also add weight to the left as the torque effect wants to lift the left side up. Does that mean in a left hand drive the offset is also on the left.

I believe the posts under Guye's Pace build include the reference to his use of HSV cats as high quality convertors. He had the race mob building his lovely looking exhaust system!

Anyway a good tune by a specialist and you should romp it in as it is an older emissions standard that was set - pre-AU falcon times I thought.

Best of luck!

Quite right, Slowy.

Muddy, HSV cats are available for rental, custom made to fit pace headers and under car setup. PM for details :)

From what I have been told by engineer....either
From RMS VSI No.6
"To confirm vehicle emissions are within acceptable standards certifiers may require RMS emissions testing. These are conducted free of charge at RMS Heavy Vehicle Inspection Station (HVIS) Botany or Penrith. Alternatively, a 4 or 5 gas analyser test may be conducted at a vehicle repairer"

guye 03-01-2016 12:25 AM

Free!? You lucky, lucky ba$tards!

Mine cost $700+ in Mexico....

stephen low 03-01-2016 02:49 AM

Ha ha - ahh Sisco...........

There you go the NSW State regulators simply just can't let go and run to an approved - read accredited to say NATA standard, supplier's test results.

I can see why Treeve is tearing out his hair in his post attempting to work towards a uniform system.

Even I have pulled my hair out.....first engineer I talked to wanted *pics of seatbelt anchor pts/retractors etc (but only he could take)
* emissions - results of test on report with "companies" name on letter head.
* then when all built come and see him
Next engineer I talked to, wanted for rego, intrusion bar across nose opening, child restraint anchor points, no passenger side pipe
Then 3 wipers/extra gusset welded on engine mounts (chassis) / not happy with transmission mounting points in tunnel / emission testing - alluded to NATA approved facility / emission testing under ADR 79/03 before 1/11
All the photos I could take of the build
And as they say "thats all folks" finished with my public rant
PS thanks to Craig/Warren for the support and answering questions

Intrusion bar across nose opening? What for? to stop it swallowing dogs and small children on the road?

400TT 03-11-2016 08:28 PM

The engine offset to passenger side is around 25 to 30mm depending on drivetrain fitted.

Offsetting the drivetrain gives us 3 main advantages, which you guys have already touched on:
  • More cockpit space for the driver, especially footbox width for drivers feet.
  • Better cross-weight balance
  • Reduces torque effect of engine on handing

JD, very astute of you. :) Offsetting the drivetrain works best on RHD, you just can't get all the benefits with LHD.

Another snag has reared its head....its been so long since body came off, tried to put back on and the fiberglass supports that are glued to nose sit "inside" (>10mm) instead of "outside" radiator/nose chassis panels (if that makes any sense) Rad and all other front end panels are in place Has anyone else had this issue?

albanycobra 04-23-2016 08:28 PM

You try contacting Pace? They usually pretty good on the weekend.

Wazza 04-23-2016 08:41 PM

I recon the best idea would be to just send through an email to me,rather than asking the forum...
I'll see what we can do.....
First time I've heard of this happening,so I'm assuming something has been mounted incorrectly or fixed in the wrong spot.
Should be an easy fix, once we can see what the issue is.
Cheers,
Warren

I had exactly the same problem. No amount of pushing and levering could get the brackets to move across. In desperation, I ended up cutting off those brackets, and only then could we get the body back on.

Fortunately, I had a spare pair of brackets so I'll glue those back on. Speak with Wazza about it. I'm sure there's an easy fix for this that doesn't involve cutting off the brackets!

guye 04-26-2016 06:15 AM

I had a similar issue. It's all to do with the angles and stuff.

I removed the radiator mount bolts from the radiator brackets (the radiator forces the nose extensions 'out'). I also had to remove the lower nose extension panel. This all allowed me to 'squeeze' the nose extension panels together a bit.

You need to keep those hi nose tabs above and behind the extension panels, which is tricky because the body has to be held up, the mid firewall tabs kept above the firewall, and the rear lifted too. The door sills must be kept flexed out at this point too. You may also need to flex the bottom of the nose section of the body out a bit too at this point.

Then lower the nose enough for those tabs to click outside the extension panels, slide the body forward and down.

Or something like that. Easier with a few more bods. Probably even easier, in hindsight, to unbolt the extension panels and drop the radiator before refitting the body perhaps.

Anyway, it all went back together ok in the end! It may be heaps easier for the guys at Pace HQ as they've done it heaps more times!

400TT 04-26-2016 05:39 PM

If you want to make the body an easy drop on, 2 person fit without flexing anything then remove the front extension panels and remove the door hinges from the chassis. The body just drops onto the chassis without any stress.

We don't fit the radiator, etc, until the body is fitted and the front extension panels are aligned to the body mounts and front overrider/bumper mounts are in place. That way when you fit the radiator, etc, you are not accidentally pushing those panels out of alignment as those chassis front extension panels are fully supported by the body mounts, etc.
