Default Arntz Cobra in Australia - 1982

I've never seen or heard of this Cobra in Australia before. This mag cover shoot was done in late 1982. Does anyone know any more about the car or owner?

Here's a recent summary from one of the mag staff;

...and out front was Andrew Keillor's Arntz Cobra (possibly one of, if not the 1st replica Cobra's to be built). Next time I catch up with Lindsay and Cathy Gunston I will see if they still have the original transparencies from the shoot to put up! That replica Cobra was a full on street machine with a very stout small block Chev (yes really) and Muncie box, an incredibly quick car!

I wonder if that black Arntz is the one I saw as a 12 year old and decided I wanted one.

Box - maybe! One of the first ones I remember seeing was a black Dax in Street Machine magazine back in about 1988 or thereabouts. It had an avgas fed 351C and ran in Targa Tasmania. Tough!

Here's an update from the author;
As far as I know this was the first Arntz Cobra in Australia. It is actually black, photo looks like it has a green tinge. No idea where it is now but I think it was owned by Duttons (prestige car yard) in Richmond, Vic at one stage.

Spook, I didn't know (or didn't remember) that - thanks. I know Cameron had one the toughest Honda NSXs on the planet, which also ran in Targa Tasmania...

Soul here on CC had a black Arntz that had caught fire and hit a barrier of sorts and generally had a day to forget. I think he sold it, but not sure.

Flatchat - yep they're a couple of old champions. Peter keeps promising to drag his out of mothballs and let it see the light of day. What's the other guy's name? I can see his face... George? He's a man of few words, much like your good self! The last time I saw him and the car was at Glen Hotel a few years ago. I think it sits lower in the rear than any other Cobra I've ever seen, and displays what an auctioneer might proclaim to be "a very well developed patina"

Ian - I'm not buying any cars for a while. A new property is calling me, so if anything I will be thinking about selling some. Are you sure you don't want an Austin Healey 3000 with a 289 Ford and toploader? A perfect match for your Cobra..!

Treeve and jcraigau

From the discussion about this magazine;
Terry Scully still has the Formula T,don't think it ever got registered
If I recall correctly Terry's T had a trade plate on it back then. It was driving well and he was waiting for engineers to sign off on it. I believe it was parked up for some time after that though and was very busy with his trailer business.

Ah Mike I stand corrected. I think it was a Dax now you say that.

The forum knowledge archive is a wonderful thing.

Sorry for the mislead.
