Exclamation Big Cobra reunion

Hi all,

One of the recent decisions by the committee of the Victorian club is to have key guest speakers at each of our monthly meetings...

You may recall we had George Vidovic from Python Racing in Melbourne at a recent meeting. During that meeting we had a little bit of trivia with George answering some "early club history" questions.

What was the first car driven over the new Bolte Bridge by the Premier of Victoria?..

Who was the State Government Minister who launched Python Racing and then took a run around the block in a Cobra..

This and more questions will be answered.

Directly from that I asked George to come back to our December meeting after talking to President Rohan..

George has agreed and has promised to put together a detailed history of the club.

We need all of your photos and history on the Victoria club. Any photos would be appreciated. Forward copies to Rohan or to George and we will get them on disc.

Additionally, George has asked all members to call into Python Racing and Vehicles in Ferrers Street South Melbourne any Saturday morning. Drive into his shop if you are in your Cobra. George and Maggie are great hosts and have their vintage coffee machine going non stop...

Back to that first Wednesday meeting in December..

I thought it would be a great opportunity to track down the early club members who first got together to form the club. From early meetings at George's Python vehicles in South Melbourne onto the Mercat Hotel months later etc

Do you remember who else was there, Mike Moore, Rob Baker and the early members.. who else was there.. we used to meet and just talk cars..

So the aim is to make up a list of those early members and I can contact them to invite them to a night of nostalgia and possibly a later discussion panel at another meeting...

What are your thoughts..

The first Wednesday in December is the meeting date, so we have a little bit of time to chase people up.

I will chase Mike Moore and Rob Baker as I have their details.

Lets get those original members together and names

Lets make this a great night...
gjkrv8 and itempany like this.

Question

Guye

This is a reunion of original members in December that does not mark any milestone as such. But basically an opportunity to get the guys together as George will be our guest speaker.

As far as the date the club started - good question and I think we may get an answer to that if there is consensus at the December meeting..

I came to my first meeting in 1997 at the Mercat.
Rob baker
Jeff Anderson
Dave Munroe
Rob Smith
Mike Moore
These were the core of the club back then.
Bernie didn’t get to the meetings back then (busy running a city), but I knew him by name, and the first big event I went to was Wheels, Wings and Water which I think Bernie help organise.
Around 1998 we got a few more regulars.
John Cini
Neville Threader
Mark Grinning
Graeme Townsend
David Tucker
John Tolan
Rob Hamilton
Laurie Bongalis
I’m sure there was more.
We use to average 5 to 15 people at those meetings.
From 1998 to 2010 I only missed one meeting.
The Cobra Car Club of Victoria officially started (incorporated) on the 3rd of July 2003.
Before that we were an appendage of the South Australian Cobra Car Club and before that I think there was an association with the Bolwell Car club.
The club Swelled from 25 members to 75 after we put on a large display at Hawthorn Park in 2003(not sure of that date).
When I handed the presidency over in 2004 we had over 100 paid up members.
And remained healthy ever since.

I had an awesome Video from all the club events from 1999 - 2002.
Went to Paul Flemming and then on to Mike Moore.
Maybe he still has it. That would be a blast to see at the December meeting.
I may even have a bit of original footage on my old handy cam.

Try starting a new thread on the main page, you'll get more replies where everyone will see it.
Are you in Aus or US? What state? If you put these details in your profile, people can see where your at and even recommend someone close by.

Cheers
