Default Aus Trip

Hi Guys, Dave from UK, the wife and I are flying into Sydney Mar 2015, we are joining a group tour on the 14th and after picking the Harley up touring the gold coast over two weeks, we normally tour in the states just the two of us so the group thing should be a blast, not worrying about routes accommodation etc, just kicking back and enjoying, will have some time in Sydney prior to joining the group so wondered if there were any car related places I need to be aware of, I have a 545ci bbf dax cobra over here which I built from scratch every nut and bolt so V8 fords are obviously of interest to me! regards Dave

Hi Keane,

Apart from Sydney and Gold Coast, where does your tour take you?

Also, tell us the start/end dates and I am sure the local Clubs in the respective states you're visiting will let you know about their monthly meets, etc, which I am sure you'd be welcome to join in. They might not be up to date online yet (for March 2015 that is), but here is the QLD, NSW and Victoria club links.

You live in the UK and drive a 545 cube big block? You must be a billionaire to afford the fuel bills!!!

That looks like an awesome trip Dave. I'd say you'll have little time to be doing any cobra-ing during your schedule though. You don't get down as far as the Gold Coast, which is an hour south of Brisbane at the end of your tour. However getting to Sydney early is a good move, and I am sure the locals will chime in with a few suggestions. Or at least some might meet you for dinner one night with their cobras if you shout them a beer!

Hi Dave
It's a smallish world nowdays with a 'puter.
My dad was born and raised in Poole before joining and serving in the Dorsetshire Regiment until it was disbanded in the late 50's. He eventually transferred to the Australian Army.

About 3 hours West of Sydney is a country town called Bathurst. They have a bit of a racetrack there, complete with a museum. It would be a nice drive for you and the boss and the pair of you might find the museum interesting. Google it etc.

Here's hoping you both have a fantastic time here.

Cheers
(Another) Dave

Hi Dave,
A good place to 'sight see' in Sydney is Classic Throttle Shop, under the bridge approach (literally) at North Sydney, so it's an easy walk across the bridge if you're staying in the CBD. They always have a decent selection of moderns, classics, race cars. Classic Throttle Shop - Home
Enjoy your trip!
Cheers,
Glen

it is indeed a small world, the guy who runs the tours was apparently born and raised just a few hundred yards from where we live in Poole! dave We will indeed try and enjoy the trip, this years USA trip let us down badly with the weather, Michigan, Wisconsin,Illonois, cold and wet! glen thanks for the heads up on that will drag the wife into that shop. dave
