I've been watching this thread with interest as we've just bought a property with a long driveway that looks to be compacted road base and "blue metal" gravel. We don't get the keys for a few weeks and I haven't seen it after heavy rain but it's very hard under foot. A friend said they may have mixed powdered cement in with the road base.
The driveway continues around behind the house for about the same distance again, roughly 200m long in total. Will be interesting to see how it fares over time.
