Default LSA Alternator mount - Pace 427

Thinking I may fabricate a low mount alternator bracket for my LSA engine, that will be going in a "Pace" car. (Hope to take delivery of car before Christmas.)

I plan to use LS1 alternator which worked just fine in my previous Harrison.

Would be interested to hear what others have done with this engine option. Also how much room around chassis rails etc ??... A little time poor at the moment, so not into re-inventing the wheel. Murray

Muzza, the factory alternator mount from Commodore will be fine. I will get Warren to email you the part number.

The LS1 alternator is a good choice, still same 140amp capacity as the latest alternators, so plenty of current and is the simplest to wire and has the most common connector type.

Great question and timing Murray.

Craig, can you kindly please confirm that the part numbers are:

Alternator: 92058857
Bracket: 92059707

Also Murray, the starter part number is 12617229.

Gents

If these are indeed the parts you went with, how did you resolve the issue of small wrap angle on the water pump pulley? did you put in a ribbed pulley in the top bolt hole of the LS1 alternator mount bracket?

i bought a billet pully set up that bolts where the old power steering pump bolted too it came with the belt to suit it .

Mike, as I mentioned in my PM, I just ordered all the OEM parts from my local Holden dealer. Just speak with them.....they have everything you need including two schematics to show you every part (there's approx. 16 line items). Also, it ended up being cheaper to order direct from the Holden dealer instead of bringing the parts in from the USA.

There was a 3 bolt mount pulley about 10-12" above the alternator. Once all mounted up, the OEM alternator belt wrapped perfectly around everything and tensioned up with no slack. I'm away overseas at the moment, but from memory there are a total of 3 pulleys in the charging system plus the main pulley off the crankshaft.

And yes, as mentioned by Craig earlier, the LS1 alternator is relatively cheap (~$230 versus $450 for the LSA alternator) and fits the stock LSA alternator bracket. The plug is about $20.

thanks Sime. I found some of the schematics you mentioned on-line and am headed in the right direction now i reckon. i'll have a chat to Holden.

for the sake of anyone reading this later researching, i think the matching plug for the LS1 alternator (which is GM part number 92058857) is a Yazaki, 6.3 Series, 7223-6224-40. Otherwise known as a mitsubishi "SP" alternator plug.
