And I also have the AVO shocks as well. No leaks last time checked. Car is only street driven though. Wish they had the height adjustment. I hated the was way SPF cars appear to sit high in the rear, so had to move the rear upper shock mounting arm up one hole to get the look I was after. Maybe it doesn't handle as well for those who track their car, but sure looks much better. Least I think so.

I'm surprised that there is no height adjustment. Can you send me a photo?

Can someone explain how dampers just snap like that?

It is sometimes due to an incorrect design. If a too long shock is fitted, it can bottom too much. Additionally, if there is not enough clearance at the mounts, a bending moment can eventuate, and cause some stress on the shaft. Hitting a curb or big hole can also do some damage.

AVO,

Sorry, I',ve never been able to get pics of anything to load to site. Some issue with me not knowing just how I'm sure. But no, no height adjustment on mine, (AVO). Just the one ring for spring pressure.

Brett

Brett,

If you cant adjust the ride height with the adjusters, this suggests either your springs are too long, or the shocks too short.

Cool

AVO

I was thinking of other types of shocks I'd seen that I believe had 2 rings. 1 for spring rate adjustment, and other 1 for maybe adjusting an inner sleeve I thought for height adjustment. I'm probably confused at what I thought each ring purpose was for.

I did get to spend a short time with car on corner scales after I'd adjusted ride height as you say to. But it doesn't take much adjusting when trying to get corner weight, and cross weight close to where it should be, before ride height is not as I'd like. Need my own scales, where time wouldn't be an issue. A 4 wheel alignment was the best thing I'd had done though. My, what a driving improvement.

Sorry all, didn't mean to get off thread topic.

I thought mine may have been due to binding at full compression, but there was plenty of clearance around the top hat of spring and the shock does not bottom out before the lower control arm contacts the chassis.
I thought it must have been a "one off", until I heard it has happened to others.

Default Coil Over Shocker Problems

Thank you all for replies re my thread. I was surprised that the Leaking problem was not specific to any one kit builder seemed across the board. My shocks were serviced by a fellow recommended by Harrison in Brisbane with no better result than the brand new ones out of the box one leaked.I have put my hand up for a set of Strange single adjustable Shocks only and will have the spring retainers machined to suit the King coil ID of 2.375" int Dia, (thanks to Muzza). After several phone calls to Engine Master Albury checking the Strange dimensions etc, and agreeing on a Price sub $1000- then ordering to be told sorry out of stock for those units. On back order hopefully 2 weeks ???
Hoping to be back on the Sunny Coast roads before Xmas.
To you all have save Xmas and enjoy your Cobras.

One thing to think on. Strange make shocks for Drag racing. Will the valving be suitable for a Cobra road car?

Cheers

Trevor,

I have all the parts and tools that could fix your leaking problem. Cost often works out to around 1/3 rd of new replacement cost. Over to you.
