Default New Member - Looking For Cobra Kit

Hello,

Roberto from Perth here, I have just joined the forum.

My 2015 New Year's resolution is to buy a Cobra kit and start the dream car.

We have G-Force here in Perth and I am going to contact them in the next couple of weeks. I could also buy one in the US and get imported here.

What would you suggest?

I am looking for something with all the parts and my idea was to install a Coyote engine.

Looking forward to your advises.

Welcome Roberto, heaps of good stuff on this forum. Don't be afraid to search and surf the topics to help find answers to your question... There's more than enough info on here to fill your summer.

Hi Roberto.

I've got one of Rob's (GForce) cobras. Just waiting on going to registration now as it's pretty much finished. I'm really pleased with it.

Rob has a chassis specifically for the Coyote now and does a lot of work on them.

I went for a Boss 290 engine in mine which has given a few challenges due to its size but it got shoehorned in after a fashion.

Wiring was tricky and I found a great Auto-electrician who was able to wire the whole thing for a great price. He's also a really nice guy to deal with.

Depending on the kit you buy, you may or may not have to source the parts yourself. GForce, for example, you can source the parts yourself or get them through Rob. His prices are very reasonable. I would recommend that for bits in the engine bay, you speak to him as items like extractors, steering columns etc. unless you are a fabricator, they can get tricky.

There are companies like Factory Five our of America that now have contacts in Australia and these are pretty much Cobra-in-a-box. You just select your engine/gearbox etc. and build it up from all the parts. I'm making it sound easier than it is of course, but you get most/if not all of the parts when you buy it.

Either way, it comes down to your level of enthusiasm and ability.

My apologies Spooky.

I feel obliged to reply along the lines you suggested but my hands are full now. I find I'm engrossed in Leroy's rebuild of that wonderful old Arntz and that, I'm afraid, seems to be blotting out all other things Cobra for the moment. We've all seen what he did with his Harrison. I'm expecting nothing less with this current project.

Now Roberto ... G Force is a well respected brand in your part of the world. Coyote power is righteous, no doubt. There are a couple of other Sandgropers on the forum who will jump in and provide you with information on what they're doing and what's available in WA, including the American Factory 5. Take your time and do your research and more importantly get along to a WA club meeting. It's the start of a fun ride, so good luck with whatever you decide.

Don, that thing of Leroys is gonna be awesome! Great thread it is. We do need to talk to him about those Chebie things he keeps on using in his cobras though.

Spook, there's no point now; Don and Leroy have already formed the Red Left-Hook Chevy Cobra Club, so there's no turning back.

Roberto, welcome to the forum! You're looking for a Cobra at a great time. There's more choice than ever, and the quality of a number of local and international manufacturers is excellent. You'll get plenty of opinions and good advice here. It's worth searching this forum as well for pages and pages and pages of discussion about this, because you're definitely not the first person to ask the question.

Nothing at all wrong with a Chev, Rob. Anything that gets it down the road is fine by me. Leroy's solid roller engine should sound great through the side pipes.

Roberto, the Coyote engines have great power potential so they're also great options. Currently, the LSA motors offer significantly more performance for less money. I can't wait to see when someone makes an LSA motor look a little more old school.

Invariably in these "New guy looking at a Cobra" threads someone pulls the pin on the chev in a ford grenade and yells "fire in the hole". I just think it's funny.

Personally I have no strong preference despite appearances. We are lucky now that there are quite a few options for crate motors with support from the parent manufacturers. both GM and Ford have recognized there is now a growing aftermarket for their motors and are making it easier to transplant them.

The coyote or the LS are both great choices. Plenty enough power and all the right noises from either of them. More than enough to give you a big laundry bill.

Welcome aboard Roberto. The research is a fun part of the process.
